When I introduced myself and my friends and told everyone what instruments we play, one lady exclaimed with delight “Wow, this is a real orchestra!” She was smiling and she looked so excited to hear us play. That was probably the moment that brought the most joy to my heart and made me realize that I was doing something right and that I was helping these people. I look forward to performing music again for others who need it, to lift their souls and mine in the process.

We begin the holiday of Passover by conducting Seders (dinner feasts) for the first two nights. During the Seder, we read the story of the Exodus from the Haggadah, and are supposed to tell the story as if we ourselves experienced this incredible journey from slavery into freedom. We learn that it is our responsibility to relive the exodus each year by telling its story, asking questions, and by singing the many wonderful traditional Passover songs. In doing so, we bring the journey from slavery into freedom to the forefront of our memory, 2 and are reminded to appreciate our freedom, and what our ancestors went through in order for us to be free.

March/April 2015 • T H E C H R O N I C L E 19 March of Remembrance AN INTERFAITH COMMEMORATION OF THE HOLOCAUST Remembering the Shoah through Words and Music {YOM HASHOAH} FEATURING VIOLIN VIRTUOSO On this day, we remember the GIL MORGENSTERN Six Million who lost their lives in the Holocaust. But the full name of this day is Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day, and on it we think of those we lost and those who fought to defend and protect our people. The date of Yom HaShoah was chosen because of its proximity to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, when tens of thousands of 3 Jews stood up to the Nazis. This day reminds us of their story and invites us to reflect on the sacrifices that our people have made to ensure our freedom today.

Temple Beth El is proud to host the third annual March of Remembrance in partnership with the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and a Sunday, April 12, 2015 wide variety of houses of worship from across Palm Beach County. 3:00pm Interfaith Community March from Members of Temple Beth El will meet Boca Raton Christian School to Temple Beth El at 3:00 pm at Boca Raton Christian School (470 NW 4th Avenue), and join 4:00pm the 1/2 mile march to Temple Beth El Yom HaShoah Program through Words and Music At 4:00 pm, we will gather together for a memorable and meaningful at Schaefer Family Campus Yom Hashoah program, featuring Gil Morgenstern, Violin Virtuoso, Cantorial Soloists Lori Shapiro and Michelle Auslander Cohen, Temple Beth El Choirs and local Clergy and Community Leaders.

{YOM HAZIKARON} {YOM HA’ATZMAUT} Memorial Day into Independence Day. In Israel, these two important days, remembering those who have given their life for the State and celebrating the miracle of the State’s founding are observed on back-to-back days, taking the nation on a journey from mourning into celebration. Each year, as we celebrate another year of Israel’s independence and flourishing, 4 we are reminded that we cannot appreciate what Israel has become without remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice to bring it into being.
