Sam Kennedy Is Entering His 19Th Season with the Club and His Fifth As President and Chief Executive Officer. in Addition To Sam Kennedy is entering his 19th season with the club and his fifth as President and Chief Executive Officer. In addition to his role with the Red Sox, Kennedy also acts as Chief Executive of Fenway Sports Management, a sports marketing and sales agency that is a sister company to the Red Sox under the Fenway Sports Group family. A native of Brookline, MA, who grew up within walking distance of Fenway Park, Kennedy, 46, joined the Red Sox in 2002 after six years working for the San Diego Padres from 1996-2001. Since joining the Red Sox, Kennedy has played a key role in the dramatic growth of the Red Sox brand. Recalling the days that he was able to come into the ballpark on his dad’s clergy pass, Kennedy’s particular focus has been on encouraging kids to come to the ballpark to experience Fenway Park. In 2014 the Red Sox starting the Student 9’s program which offers $9 tickets to students of all ages at every home game. Outside of the 81 days a year of baseball, Kennedy has also been instrumental in the transformation of Fenway Park into a year-round venue, with diverse offerings including concerts, hockey, soccer, football and even a “Big Air” skiing and snowboarding competition requiring construction of a 150 foot high ramp from centerfield to home plate. Kennedy has taken on an increased role within Major League Baseball, working with the Office of the Commissioner and the 29 other clubs on ways to improve the game and fan experience. He currently serves on the MLB International Committee, MLB Ticketing Committee and is the chair of the President’s Working Group (PWG), a sub-committee of MLB’s Business and Media Board. Under the Commissioner and Board’s direction, the PWG’s goal is to identify and address critical business issues facing the game, facilitate communication amongst Clubs and identify best practices and strategic goals throughout the industry. In 2004, Kennedy helped create Fenway Sports Management (FSM) and has overseen its growth from that of a start-up to a world class sports marketing agency with an international roster of clients that includes not only sister companies the Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, NESN and Roush Fenway Racing, but also partnerships with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Northern Trust Open, and a landmark marketing partnership with NBA superstar LeBron James. Kennedy has received many recognitions during his time with the Red Sox, including Boston Business Journal’s 40 under 40 Award and his induction into the Sports Business Journal’s 40 under 40 Hall of Fame which includes multiple time recipients of the honor. This national honor placed him in the company of the most influential and creative young professionals in the business of sports. Kennedy is active in the community and serves on the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Trustee/Advisory Board and Marketing Committee; the Trinity College Board of Fellows; Winsor School Board of Trustees; Dana-Farber’s Visiting Committee for Institute Initiatives; The BASE’s Advisory Committee; and Camp Harbor View Board of Directors. A former captain of the baseball team at Brookline High with friend and classmate Theo Epstein, Kennedy graduated from Trinity College (CT) in 1995. Kennedy and his wife of 21 years, Amanda, reside in the Boston area with their 16-year-old son, Jimmy, and 14-year-old daughter, Ally. .

    Forthlane Fridays – Guest Bios Session 8: The Future of Sports David Beeston EVP & CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER, BOSTON RED SOX & FENWAY SPORTS MANAGEMENT Dave Beeston joined the Boston Red Sox & Fenway Sports Management in March of 2013 and was named Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer in February 2018. In his role, Beeston has varied responsibilities. He acts as a senior advisor to Sam Kennedy and Fenway Sports Group (FSG) ownership on key matters, including internal and external communication. In addition to the Boston Red Sox, FSG owns Liverpool F.C. Additionally, Dave is responsible for the execution and oversight of many of the key relationships of the Club, including with its media, concessions and merchandise partners. Finally, in his strategy role, he is charged with creating and executing new business initiatives and new lines of revenue for the Club and FSG, evaluating external opportunities presented to the Company, and acting as an internal resource for all Club departments, with a focus on long-term organizational objectives. Beeston spent the seven years prior to joining the Red Sox as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, with a focus on securities transactions. A Toronto, Ontario native, Beeston completed his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Western Ontario, graduating from the latter "with distinction." He formerly served on the Board of "Youth Without Shelter", a Toronto based teen homeless shelter, and currently serves on the Boston Medical Center's Exceptional Care Without Exception Trust Board.     ED WEISS, Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy, & General Counsel, Fenway Sports Group Ed Weiss was named General Counsel of Fenway Sports Group (“FSG”) in September 2009. In that capacity, Weiss has oversight of all legal matters for the companies in FSG’s portfolio, including the Boston Red Sox, New England Sports Network (NESN), Fenway Sports Management (FSM) and the Liverpool Football Club of the English Premier League (acquired in 2010); he maintains offices both at Fenway Park and at NESN’s headquarters. At the close of 2012, Weiss was also named Executive Vice President for Corporate Strategy, to reflect his broader business-related responsibilities within FSG. Previously, Weiss had been Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Time Warner Inc. where he had been for over a decade. Weiss was responsible for all litigation, regulatory, and intellectual property issues across the company worldwide. He also handled Time Warner’s significant antitrust issues, including any transaction and merger clearances, served as a key advisor on business and intellectual property issues related to digital content distribution, and maintained oversight of all FCC legal issues. Weiss had begun his tenure at Time Warner with Time Warner Cable in 1996, overseeing all litigation and antitrust matters for that cable operator. Before joining Time Warner, Weiss served as a commercial litigator at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine and Moore in New York City, NY, where he worked on many litigation and antitrust counseling matters. Immediately following law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jay C. Waldman, a federal judge in Philadelphia, PA, assisting with a wide variety of criminal and civil matters and participating in a number of jury trials.

An active offseason represented a potential start to that undertaking. The team that is introduced prior to Thursday’s 2:10 p.m. contest against the Orioles will be drastically different from the one that last played in front of fans on Sept. 29, 2019 — a game punctuated by Mookie Betts diving across the plate in an extra- innings walkoff victory over Baltimore – and the one that opened last year’s fan-less, ill-fated, last-place slog through a compressed season. Many of the most recognizable faces in recent franchise history are now gone. The last time a home opener had fans in attendance, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Andrew Benintendi, David Price, and Dustin Pedroia all collected their rings. Now, Betts and Price are Dodgers, Benintendi is a Royal, Bradley a Brewer, and Pedroia a retired dad. Like many boys, Sam Kennedy grew up dreaming of playing Major League Baseball (MLB). But while that dream came to an abrupt end in college, landing the job as president and CEO of an MLB team about 25 years later is not a bad fallback. During freshman year, Sam played varsity baseball at Trinity College in Connecticut. Toward the end of his year on the team, Sam approached his coach for advice. While he had sat on the bench for the vast majority of games, Sam was confident that he could improve, and he wanted to know if going abroad in either the fall or spring semester would hurt his college baseball career. Sam vividly remembers Coach Decker’s answer, “You know, Sam, I think you should go abroad in the spring.” Sam understood that response was Decker’s gentle way of telling him that he didn’t think college baseball was going to work out. Sam readily admits that the coach’s candid response was the best thing that could have happened to him. “I was a self-aware kid. I recognized right then that if I wanted to stay in baseball, I better figure out summer 2019 | how to work in professional baseball since I wasn’t going to ever play professional baseball.” Industrious Sam wrote letters to every front office — in minor as well as major league teams — and landed an internship with the New York Yankees after his sophomore year in college.
