On view again from Monday, 8 June and extended through 26 July: Wim Wenders’ 3D film Two or Three Things I Know about at the Fondation Beyeler

Created by Wim Wenders specifically for the extensive Edward Hopper exhibition, the 3D short film Two or Three Things I Know about Edward Hopper is on view again at the Fondation Beyeler from Monday, 8 June 2020. The film screenings and the exhibition itself are extended through 26 July 2020.

Due to sanitary safety measures in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, the screening space for Wim Wenders’ film initially remained closed despite the museum’s reopening. As these measures are gradually eased, the 3D film conceived by Wim Wenders for the Edward Hopper show can now once again be made accessible to museum visitors. From coming Monday, 8 June, 21 film lovers at a time will be able to enjoy this cinematic highlight. The film is screened three times per hour. Separate entry and exit points have been arranged for the screening space. Edward Hopper – until 26 July 2020 Edward Hopper (1882–1967) is widely acknowledged as one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. In Europe, he is known mainly for his oil paintings of urban life scenes dating from the 1920s to 1960s, some of which have become highly popular images. Less attention has so far been paid to his landscapes. Surprisingly, no exhibition to date has dealt comprehensively with Hopper’s approach to American landscape. This will also be the first time Hopper’s works are shown in an exhibition in German- speaking Switzerland. Originally planned until 17 May and now extended through 26 July, the Fondation Beyeler’s extensive exhibition presents Hopper’s iconic landscape paintings as well as a selection of watercolours and drawings.

Visitor and staff safety is our first priority

Now as ever, the safety of our visitors and employees remains our first priority. The Fondation Beyeler has therefore drawn up a comprehensive safety plan in order to implement the Swiss Federal Council’s Covid-19 Ordinances and introduce further measures to optimise visitor flow. This includes:

• Limiting visitor numbers through online tickets with time slots, which can be booked on www.fondationbeyeler.ch. This also applies to all valid tickets already purchased as well as to holders of vouchers, memberships and the BaselCard. More information is available on our website. • Modified visitor flow in the park and in the museum with separate entry and exit points • New welcome desk and cloakroom in museum outbuildings • Hand sanitiser dispensers for visitors and employees in several key locations within the museum • Additional cleaning and hygiene measures for the museum’s infrastructures

Restaurant and Bistro BEY The Beyeler Restaurant im Park has reopened as a self-service, with necessary measures implemented to meet safety distance requirements. The Bistro BEY remains closed until further notice.

Fondation Beyeler park In the past months of lockdown, being out in nature has acquired renewed value. The Fondation Beyeler’s expansive park, with its three water lily ponds, invites visitors to linger and take their time. Summer is here. Around the Lange Erlen, the landscape allows for long walks.

The “Edward Hopper” exhibition is organised by the Fondation Beyeler in cooperation with the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the worldwide major repository of Hopper’s work.
