Keppel Ward Profile 2019 Description Keppel Ward lies in north west , covering 916 hectares with a population of 11,730 (2017). In the south east of the ward is the council estate of Park which is the most deprived area of Keppel. To the south are Dropping Well and part of Kimberworth, private suburban areas on either side of Wortley Road. Near Junction 35 of the M1 is the village of with 4,110 residents, a mainly affluent area popular with commuters. In the centre of the ward is the landmark of Keppel’s column, from which the ward takes its name. The central part of the ward is more rural and includes the small village of Scholes with 340 residents.

Deprivation in Keppel is below the Borough average but this average hides a wide variation across the ward. The most deprived area is the western part of Kimberworth Park which makes up about a quarter of Keppel and is within the 13% most deprived of England. By contrast, deprivation in the western and central parts of the ward, around Thorpe Hesley and Keppel’s Column, is mostly well below the national average. The least deprived area is the eastern part of Thorpe Hesley (Wentworth Rd) which is one of the least deprived areas in the Borough.
