SEATTLE CHAMBER MUSIC JAMES EHNES SOCIETY Artistic Director OUR MISSION

Seattle Chamber Music Society fosters the appreciation of chamber music in our region by presenting performances featuring world-class musicians in accessible and inviting formats, with an emphasis on developing a broad-based sustainable audience through education and community outreach. PRESIDENT’S LETTER //

Our 2018 chamber music festivals brought great works of chamber music, performed by some of the best musicians playing today for engaged, enthusiastic audiences. Seattle Chamber Music Society fosters a special spirit of collegiality and friendship among the musicians that helps the musicians play together at their absolute best. And, inspired by these astonishing festival performances, our outreach and community engagement programs brought the joy of chamber music to thousands more.

Both the Winter and Summer Festivals, under James Ehnes’ brilliant artistic direction, drew sizable audiences, including sold-out performances. All of the festival concerts were broadcast locally on KING-FM, and each year a number of the performances are submitted to American Public Media and broadcast nationally on Performance Today in 280 markets reaching over 1 million listeners each broadcast. During the past year, 42 live SCMS concert performances were broadcast on Performance Today.

Our Music Under the Stars program included hosted live concert broadcasts of all 12 Summer Festival concerts to four city parks, and our free live concert in Volunteer Park, attracted 3,200 park goers on a perfect July evening preceded by a warmly received community play-along of Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” led by James Ehnes and several of our extraordinary SCMS Festival musicians. 504 SCMS actively engages youth in chamber music in the Puget Sound region.
