0100 - FIRE IN THE HOLE

Directed By: Michael Dinner Written By: Graham Yost

Overview

Following his questionable fatal shooting of a drug cartel hit man in Miami, U.S. Marshal is shunted off to his native Kentucky where he is assigned to investigate Boyd Crowder, a childhood friend from the coal mining town of Harlan and the prime suspect in a series of crimes tied to a white supremacist gang. As Raylan is briefed on the crime spree, Boyd masterminds the bombing of a church thought to be a front for a drug dealing operation before killing a partner he suspects is a government informant. But Raylan’s investigation gets even more personal when he is sent to look into the shooting death of Boyd’s brother, Bowman, by his wife, Ava, a woman who has had a crush on Raylan since high school.

While being questioned by Raylan, Ava is visited by Boyd’s henchman, Dewey Crowe, who says his boss wants to see her at once. After Raylan sends Dewey packing with word that he wants a meeting with Boyd, a brazen bank robbery by the racist gang sends him to look for its leader at his ramshackle backwoods home. Following a tense reunion, Raylan gives Boyd 24 hours to leave Harlan County. Then, even after making it clear that he cannot be seen socializing with a defendant in a murder investigation, Raylan leaves his Marshals Service colleagues at a motel when Ava makes a cryptic phone call to alert him that she is in danger. But as Raylan heads for a showdown with Boyd, the gang quickly engages the other marshals in a violent shootout.

After turning the tables on a pair of gang members who have followed him, Raylan arrives at Ava’s trailer to find her being held at gunpoint by Boyd. However, as the showdown between the two men nears what will surely be a deadly climax, Ava appears with a shotgun aimed squarely at her brother-in-law. And as she is about to shoot, Boyd goes for his own gun, only to be outdrawn by Raylan. But while he is sure he killed his nemesis, Raylan is surprised to learn that he narrowly missed Boyd’s heart and that he survived.

Logline

U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens returns to his native Kentucky where he comes face-to-face with an old friend who’s leading a deadly white supremacist gang.

1 0101 - RIVERBROOK

Directed By: Michael Dinner Written By: Graham Yost

Overview

With Boyd Crowder recovering from his gunshot wounds, Raylan is sent to transport his racist sidekick Dewey Crowe to prison. Having delivered Dewey after fending off his attack in the car, Raylan gets word that two prisoners who were working as musicians at a party have escaped. Needing gas, he has the misfortune to stop at the station that has been commandeered by the two escapees, Price and Cooper. And after forcing his partner to take off running, Cooper takes Raylan’s gun and then locks him in a storeroom before making his getaway.

Along with fellow marshals Rachel Brooks and Tim Gutterson, Raylan heads to see Shirley Kelso, a retired stripper and Cooper’s ex-wife. At the trailer where they find her living with her cousin Dupree, Shirley insists she hasn’t seen her ex-husband. Once the marshals have left, however, Cooper emerges from the trailer’s bedroom and, after Shirley and Dupree admit they’ve been looking for the stolen cash he hid prior to going to prison, he enlists them in his effort to recover it. But when he takes them to the house where he is sure it’s stashed, Cooper is surprised to find it isn’t there. And sure he now knows where the money is hidden, Dupree shoots Cooper and, leaving him for dead, escapes with Shirley. Meanwhile, as Raylan continues to avoid any romantic involvement with Boyd’s sister-in-law, Ava, he suspects he knows where Cooper’s money has been hidden, too.

While Dupree and Shirley are in the midst of a home invasion robbery at the house where they think the money was left, Raylan and Rachel arrive at the vacant house where Cooper was wounded. Realizing the mistake Cooper made in identifying the location, the marshals track Dupree and Shirley to the home of the Lonner family. Held inside at gunpoint, the Lonners admit to finding the money beneath the floorboards of their home, but claim to have spent almost all of it. After wounding Mr. Lonner in anger, Dupree is surprised when Raylan and his team arrive at the door. And despite the fact that the couple are holding the Lonners and Raylan at bay with their weapons, Tim uses a sniper rifle to kill Dupree as Shirley is arrested.

Logline

The hunt for a prison escapee sends Raylan and his team into a hostage situation at the house where the convict stashed the proceeds from a bank robbery 15 years ago.

2 0102 - LORD OF WAR AND THUNDER, THE

Directed By: Jon Avnet Written By: Gary Lennon

Overview

While the U.S. marshals are staking out the hiding place of fugitive Wilson Toomey, Raylan’s 65-year-old dad, Arlo, claims he hasn’t been paid for the house he and his wife, Helen, are renting to Stan Perkins – and takes a baseball bat to the home’s contents to retaliate. Calling in the attack himself, Arlo then passes out on the couch where he is found by Sheriff Hunter Mosley. And though Hunter gets him to apologize and promise to pay for the damage, Arlo is arrested after assaulting Perkins. Tracking Raylan down at the motel room where he is staying with Ava, Helen asks him for help. And after Raylan reluctantly bails Arlo out of jail, Perkins and a pair of thugs arrive at the Givens home, threatening Helen and demanding that Arlo return something they claim he stole from them. Though Arlo is determined to make Perkins pay for confronting Helen, Raylan insists that his dad sit tight. Questioning Perkins about the events that spawned the assaults, Raylan begins to suspect that Arlo and Helen may have simply misplaced the rent checks. But after Raylan warns Perkins to let the sheriff handle any trouble, Arlo ambushes his two thugs with a baseball bat, an assault that only stops when he has a heart attack. Meanwhile, as Ava is questioned by the U.S. Attorney about the shooting of Boyd Crowder, Raylan and Rachel’s surveillance leads to Toomey’s arrest.

Told that Perkins was recently released from prison after serving time for a drug charge, Raylan heads to the hospital to see Arlo. Warning his dad against trying to pull a rent scam against a dangerous ex-con, Raylan then questions bar owner Johnny Crowder, who reveals that Perkins is dealing Oxycontin. Confronted by Raylan, Perkins admits he had a large cache of the addictive painkiller hidden in the house and insists it was stolen by Arlo. As a result, Raylan finally realizes that everything – from Arlo’s arrest following his attack on the house, to getting his son to post bail, possibly even the heart attack – is part of an elaborate scheme to rip off Perkins. Logline

Following Arlo Givens’ arrest for assault, Raylan’s investigation suggests that his 65-year-old dad and stepmother may be involved in an elaborate scheme to rip off a recently paroled drug dealer.

Overview

Along with Art Mullen, Raylan meets with gallery owner Karl Hanselmann, a collector of the paintings of Adolf Hitler, who’s helping the Marshal’s Service secure the assets of con man Owen Carnes. Finding him at the estate he shares with his wife Caryn, the agents serve Carnes with an order that makes everything he owns, including three Hitler paintings, government property. When Hanselmann says that the paintings are forgeries, Owen demands to see his art consultant, David Mortimer. But once the marshals have left, Caryn distracts Owen as her horse trainer Greg Davis shoots him in the head. With the Carnes’ fortune seized by the government, Caryn and Greg make Owen’s death look like a suicide to get the fraud case against him dismissed. And to keep David’s sale of the Hitler forgeries a secret, Caryn implicates him in the murder while still promising to burn the forged paintings to protect his reputation. When the FBI arrives to find Owen dead and a fireplace filled with the smoldering remnants of the artwork, they are indeed prepared to drop the case. But once Hanselmann confirms that the Hitler paintings could not have produced the ashes, Raylan suspects Carnes was murdered.

After being questioned by Tim Gutterson, David worries that Caryn’s scheme is in danger of backfiring once he learns that the burned paintings weren’t the forgeries. Confronted by David, Caryn admits to burning some other artworks and keeping the forged Hitlers to blackmail the art consultant. Once Raylan reveals that he is on to their scheme, Caryn enlists Greg in a plot to get rid of David, too. But after luring David into her trap, Caryn is stunned to discover that Greg has cooperated with the police and recorded her admitting to killing her husband and arranging David’s murder, too. Finally, as Raylan looks to make peace with his ex- wife Winona, Hanselmann reveals the surprising truth behind his interest in the Hitler artworks.

Overview

Upon seeing photos of Dr. Peter Oldham, a dentist who attacked a patient in the parking lot of his Vista Heights, California office, Raylan and Art realize that they have caught up with Roland Pike, a fugitive who eluded Raylan several years ago. With Rachel assigned to lead the case, Raylan explains that “Rollie” Pike, a former drug cartel accountant, has been on the run since stealing $250,000 from his employers. Always one step ahead, Rollie watches from nearby as Raylan and Rachel arrive at “Dr. Oldham’s” office to question his receptionist, Mindy Springer. And after claiming to be surprised to hear of the doctor’s real identity, Mindy slips out of the office with thousands of dollars in gold to rendezvous with her boss and boyfriend, Rollie. Though taken aback to discover that he’s running from a crime syndicate, Mindy agrees to join Rollie as he tries to make his way to safety in Belize. While Raylan and Rachel question Mindy’s neighbor, Shawni Burnett, Rollie swaps cars with a disabled war veteran to keep from being followed. Using Shawni’s cell phone to call Mindy, Raylan then tells Rollie that his best chance of survival rests on turning himself in. Rollie, however, refuses to heed the warning, and he and Mindy resume their run for the border, unaware that they are being followed by a cartel hit man. When they can’t buy the forged documents they need to get out of the country, Rollie turns to one of his patients for help. Meanwhile, after learning that Raylan is investigating the case, the hit man tells his bosses in Miami that he will kill the marshal, too.

Realizing that he is a fugitive, Mrs. Pena refuses to help Rollie and Mindy. But after her father offers to introduce the fleeing couple to a guide who can sneak them into Mexico, Mrs. Pena clandestinely calls the police. As he and Rachel continue their pursuit, Raylan ambushes the hit men trailing him and Rollie. And when he can’t convince them to stand down, he is forced to shoot both of them. Finally, as a run-in at the border leads him to kill their guide, the wounded Rollie warns Mindy against staying with him any longer. When they are tracked down by Raylan, Rollie brings an end to the long ordeal by calmly walking into a cartel sniper’s deadly trap.

0105 - BLIND SPOT

Directed By: Michael Watkins Written By: Wendy Calhoun

Overview

In the wake of Johnny Crowder’s veiled threat that Ava’s imprisoned father-in-law Bo is looking to avenge the murder of his son, Raylan steps in to protect her. Following a failed attempt to shoot them in Ava’s bedroom, Raylan joins Harlan County Sheriff Hunter Mosley, who also has a long and troubled history with the Crowder clan, to track the wounded gunman who fled the scene. And having determined that Johnny wasn’t the shooter, Raylan then prepares to get Ava safely out of the county. Meanwhile, as he tends to the wounds of his local partner Red Thayson, Duke, the hit man hired by the Miami drug cartel, plots Raylan’s murder. As another shooting by Raylan places him in even more hot water with the U.S. Attorney, Ava takes refuge in the courthouse where Winona Givens warns her about the dangers of being involved with a U.S. Marshal. With Raylan en route to the federal prison to ask Boyd about his dad’s plans, Mosley tells Ava that they need to meet him there. But when he is questioned, Boyd says that Raylan, and not Ava, was the gunman’s target. Meanwhile, instead of going to the prison, Hunter takes Ava to the cabin where Duke and Red are holed up, waiting to act on their plan to eliminate Raylan. And after Mosley kills Duke before the hit man can kill him first, he enlists Red in his plan to lure Raylan into a trap.

After learning that Ava left the courthouse with Mosley, Raylan realizes he was the target all along and sets out to find them. Summoning him to a supermarket parking lot, Mosley orders Raylan into his car and forces him to follow the van in which Red is holding Ava. Explaining how a deal he made with the Miami mob to avenge the murder of his niece, along with his subsequent run-ins with the Crowders, have left too many loose ends, Mosley makes it clear that Ava’s survival depends on his escape. However, in the van where she’s being held, Ava manages to free herself and attacks Red. And seeing the van lurching out of control, Raylan seizes the opportunity to overpower Mosley. Finally, as both Mosley and his sidekick are arrested, back in prison, Bo Crowder steps in to keep his son, Boyd, from being killed after he’s accused of being an informant.

6 Logline

Following a failed shooting attempt, Raylan sets out to protect Ava, unaware that he is the hit man’s real target.

0106 - BLOWBACK

Directed By: Jon Avnet Written By: Benjamin Cavell

Overview

When Sheriff Mosley’s arrest leads to the release of many of those he put behind bars, a vengeful Bo Crowder returns to Lexington to let Ava know he is watching her. After intervening to keep Bo at bay, Raylan is at the marshal’s office where Art Mullen wants to prepare him for AUSA David Vasquez’s questions about the Miami shooting death of hit man Tommy Bucks. But as Art puts Raylan through his paces, the office’s calm is shattered when Cal Wallace, a dangerous federal prisoner fighting transfer to a high-security facility, overpowers his guards and takes them hostage. Meanwhile, Raylan’s ex-wife Winona is startled to find Wynn Duffy waiting for her at home, claiming to be a security expert hired by her husband, Gary. With Wallace threatening to kill his hostages, Art orders everyone to stand down, while giving Raylan permission to shoot if it looks like the prisoner is about to make good on his threat. As Vasquez looks on, Art and Raylan cautiously try negotiating with Wallace. Though Wallace has no interest in dealing with Art, with the Lexington PD’s tactical team en route, Raylan does establish a rapport with the prisoner. Meanwhile, after telling Gary about coming home to find a stranger in their house, Winona suspects Duffy’s presence is tied to her husband’s questionable business deals.

On the heels of Raylan’s ordering fried chicken to placate Wallace, the tac team commander, Stevenson, makes clear his intent to storm the locker room where the hostages are being held. However, just as Stevenson is about to order his men to go in, Vasquez’s vague and subtle threat of a possible federal lawsuit against the police department causes him to hesitate. And just as Stevenson is re-ordering the assault, Raylan’s patience persuades Wallace to surrender without anyone else getting hurt. Finally, after he’s given photos of Raylan and Ava, Vasquez claims that they are sufficiently incriminating to force Boyd Crowder’s release from prison.

7 Logline

As he prepares to be questioned about his recent shootings, a hostage situation in the marshal’s office places Raylan in the role of negotiator with a dangerous federal prisoner.

0107 - HATLESS

Directed By: Peter Werner Written By: Dave Andron

Overview

On leave pending an inquiry into his recent shootings, Raylan drowns his sorrows at a seedy bar where he ends up losing a back alley brawl – and his trademark hat – to a pair of surly drunks. After calling Winona for help, he learns of the unexpected visit from Wynn Duffy and agrees he may be involved in a shady deal with her husband, Gary Hawkins. But after Raylan warns him to steer clear of Winona, Duffy orders his henchman Billy Mac to find out what the marshal has to do with Gary . . . and then kill him. Meanwhile, in way over his head with loan shark Emmitt Arnett, Gary turns to his friend and ex-pro football star Toby Griffin for help in getting Duffy to back off. Hoping to regain Winona’s trust, Gary explains how he turned to Arnett for money when his latest real estate deal threatened to implode. After tracking Toby to his house, Duffy and Billy Mac make it clear that it would be in his best interest to steer clear of their business with Gary. And after sending Toby to the hospital, the thugs tell Gary that Arnett is in no mood to renegotiate. Meanwhile, Raylan quietly works his contacts inside and outside the Marshal’s Service for information about Arnett and Duffy.

As Raylan presses Billy Mac for the details of Duffy’s plan, Gary sets his sights on avenging Toby’s injuries. Yet, once Winona is safely out of the line of fire, Raylan then has to stop Gary from using suicide to solve his problems. When Raylan and Gary arrive to propose a deal, Arnett tells Duffy he wants nothing to do with the violence that has been perpetrated in his name. And when Arnett insists that the two thugs turn themselves over to the marshals, the ensuing showdown leaves Duffy dead and Billy Mac wounded. Finally, determined to get his hat back, a sober Raylan returns to the bar to teach the two drunks who beat him up a lesson they won’t soon forget.

Overview

Upon learning that his dad has been arrested for drunk driving, and while still looking to find the right balance in his relationship with Ava, Raylan is assigned to handle Arnold Pinter, a longtime informant who no one else in the marshals’ office likes working with. At the steakhouse where he is running a bookmaking operation as well as training a waitress named Samantha on the finer points of con games, Pinter alerts Raylan to Tiny Winfield, a violent escaped convict who is hiding out in Lexington. With Raylan off chasing down Tiny, Pinter then enlists local enforcer Curtis Mims to collect a gambling debt from Travis Travers, the playboy scion of a once-wealthy Kentucky family. However, after he’s tracked down at his family’s aging southern mansion, Travis proposes that Curtis join him in a scheme to steal the small fortune Pinter has stashed away. In the wake of Tiny’s arrest, Raylan heads back to the steakhouse to give Pinter a $20,000 reward for his tip. When both the bartender and Samantha claim he hasn’t been around, Raylan then heads to Pinter’s house where he finds Travis – who, after claiming that the owner is vacationing in Florida, hurries home to where he and Curtis are holding Pinter hostage. With Raylan closing in and the blindfolded Pinter refusing to talk, Travis decides to torture him for information about where the money is hidden. However, when Travis brings in Samantha and threatens to start cutting off her fingers unless he talks, Pinter reveals that not only does he know the identities of his captors, but he knows that Samantha is in on the operation, too. But before Travis can start using his shears on Pinter’s fingers, he and Curtis spot Raylan outside. And once Raylan leaves after telling him about the reward, Travis kills his partner in crime, Curtis.

9 Certain that there is more going on than meets the eye, Raylan returns to the office for the reward money before heading back to the Travers home. Realizing that they are in danger of being caught, Travis then tries enlisting Samantha in his torture scheme. Yet, having been promised that they wouldn’t hurt him when she agreed to go along with the scam, Samantha looks to save Pinter once Travis is distracted by Raylan’s return. 0109 - HAMMER

Directed By: John Dahl Written By: Fred Golan and Chris Provenzano

Overview

Worried about Ava now that Boyd Crowder has been released from prison, Raylan tracks down the newly paroled criminal at a rural camp where he now lives with six other ex-cons. Yet, despite Raylan’s offer of a $50,000 reward for information that would put him back in prison, none of Boyd’s followers are persuaded to abandon him or his new “church.” While remaining on the alert for a revenge attack by Boyd, Raylan is assigned to protect Michael Reardon, a notorious federal judge who narrowly escaped assassination when a poisonous snake was placed in his bed. Only moments after assuming custody, Raylan must save Judge Reardon from another hit after someone tampers with his car’s exhaust system. Ignoring Raylan’s warnings, Boyd and his men move to shut down a backwoods methamphetamine lab. Certain that Boyd is up to something more criminal than cleaning up the local drug trade, Johnny Crowder drops by to question his cousin about the harassment of the meth dealers. Yet, after insisting that his only motive is to help these criminals see the error of their ways, Boyd returns to the meth lab with a firebomb that unwittingly kills a confidential government informant who was working inside. Meanwhile, in addition to finding Reardon hesitant to get involved in the Crowder case for fear of treading on another judge’s turf, Raylan also fails to convince Israel Fandi, the minister whose church Boyd bombed, to help put him back behind bars.

After spotting him checking out Reardon at a local bar, Raylan tells Virgil Corum, a paroled criminal who the judge sent to jail, to keep his distance. But when he shows up again to accost the judge and his waitress-

10 girlfriend, and Raylan finds him holding them at gunpoint in the alley, the armed and always dangerous Reardon takes matters into his own hands and brings an end to the bitter ex-con’s plan to get payback for the suffering his imprisonment caused his family. Finally, after apologizing to Ava for avoiding her while he was assigned to Reardon, Raylan urges her to leave Kentucky and get safely out of the Crowder family’s reach. And when Fandi claims he can’t actually identify Boyd as the bomber who attacked his church, Raylan learns of the informant’s death and vows to find another way to nail Crowder before he kills again.

Logline

While looking for a way to put Boyd back behind bars, Raylan is assigned to protect a federal judge who’s been targeted in a series of assassination attempts.

0110 - VETERANS

Directed By: Tony Goldwyn Written By: Benjamin Lobato

Overview

Though Raylan hopes that a raid on Boyd Crowder’s compound will convince one of his followers to talk about the deadly meth lab explosion, he ends up sorely disappointed. So with Boyd still free to continue a crime spree that the authorities suspect is meant to help his newly paroled father, Bo, regain control of his criminal empire, Raylan heads to prison to question Harlan County’s disgraced sheriff, Hunter Mosley. And while Mosley doesn’t provide anything to help nail Crowder, he does reveal that when Bo was in prison, he turned his criminal enterprise over to Raylan’s dad, Arlo. Meanwhile, even though Boyd insists that his attack on the meth lab was “God’s work,” Bo thanks him for helping ease his way back into control of Harlan County. After enlisting the help of war veteran and Deputy U.S. Marshal Tim Gutterson in getting inside the VFW hall where his dad is drinking, Raylan is frustrated by Arlo’s unwillingness to talk about the Crowders. The investigation takes a deadly turn when the two meth lab attack survivors are found shot to death. Meanwhile Bo is determined to make Arlo pay $50,000 for having let things fall into disarray while Bo was behind bars. But when Arlo doesn’t have the money, Bo gives him 24 hours to find it. Meanwhile, as Boyd looks for some powerful weapons to fuel his vendetta, Raylan deputizes the recently expelled Crowder associate Dewey Crowe, compelling him to indentify Boyd’s henchman Bobby Joe Packer as a former meth lab cooker. But when the marshals return to the camp to find him, Boyd cleverly helps Bobby Joe avoid arrest.

11 As Helen Givens discovers that Arlo took the savings she had buried in her garden, Raylan finds Ava drinking at a local bar. And when small-time thug Hestler Jones intervenes, Raylan makes it painfully clear that he should steer clear, before taking Ava to stay with Winona to keep her safe. Finally, as Arlo and Helen narrowly avoid being shot by Bo’s gunman, and Dewey alerts Boyd to Raylan’s latest efforts to send him back to prison, Bobby Joe turns himself in for the meth lab murder to protect his boss.

Logline

As he looks to protect Ava from a revenge attack, Raylan discovers that his father oversaw the Crowder family’s criminal empire while its patriarch, Bo, was in jail.

0111 - FATHERS AND SONS

Directed By: Michael Katleman Written By: Dave Andron

Overview

As Bo Crowder is in Miami promising to turn over Raylan as part of a deal to buy meth supplies from drug kingpin Gio Reyes, back in Lexington the U.S. Marshals ask Arlo Givens to infiltrate the Crowder clan in hopes of tying Boyd to the meth lab explosion. Although Raylan disagrees, both Art and AUSA David Vasquez agree to pay $20,000 for his cooperation. And after Arlo balks when his son demands that he wear a wire to the meetings, Art orders Raylan to stand down. Meanwhile, waking up to find herself at the Hawkins home, Ava tells Winona she is leaving to stay with a friend. But upon finding Crowder henchman Hestler Jones waiting for her at home, Ava heads for Raylan’s motel room, arriving just in time to see Winona leaving after some frantic lovemaking with her ex-husband. As she buys a gun for protection, Ava tells Helen Givens that she would appreciate it if Raylan didn’t know she is going back home to Harlan. As Boyd’s unexpected appearance at his family’s church prompts a tense exchange with his dad, Raylan arrives at the VFW hall where a young Iraq war vet has barricaded himself inside with a live hand grenade and Arlo as his hostage. Much to Raylan’s surprise, after managing to talk the disturbed young soldier into surrendering his grenade, Arlo emerges ready to wear a wire when he meets with the Crowders. Meanwhile, now armed and very dangerous, Ava warns Bo and his men to stay clear of her if they know what’s good for them.

12 As the marshals listen from their surveillance van, Arlo secretly tips off Bo to the fact that they are being monitored. But when Arlo offers to work for him instead of the government, Bo asks for some time to think it over and, as Arlo is leaving, makes sure Raylan knows that Ava is back in Harlan. Finally, when Raylan arrives at her house to ask that she leave the county for her own safety, Ava not only says she’s staying, but confronts him about his rendezvous with his ex-wife. And as Reyes’s henchmen head north with Bo’s supplies, their truck is destroyed in an ambush by Boyd and his men.
