Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The Bakong Technical College, , is a project very close to my heart, as I visit & spend time working in Cambodia at least twice a year.

The Founder & Director of this College, Ronnie Yimsut, is a good friend of mine & he has had immense support from Rotary Club of Toronto, Canada with this remarkable project!

The College is nearing completion & will be launched on 25 November 2013 & I will be present for this fantastic event. They now need to purchase the basic furnishings of desk, chairs, whiteboards etc & as a Rotarian I would love to help support this Project which will enable hundreds of Khmer children to be taught technical skills.

This Technical College has been built where a memorial to the massacred members of Ronnie’s family was to be established, instead a working memorial has been created & what a credit it is to this man & his endeavors & of course to the Rotary Club of Toronto.

If you or your Club would like to support this project in any way I would welcome your email: [email protected]

Overview – Bakong Technical College, Siem Reap, Cambodia Cambodia is a very poor country still recovering from 30 years of war, which ended only 15 years ago. During this time, over 2 million people (20% of the population) were wiped out by the Khmer Rouge. In addition, 100,000 or more were killed or maimed by landmines. During this time schools were virtually nonexistent.

The Good News The country is recovering, landmines are being removed, schools are being built & teachers trained. The Khmer people are intent on rebuilding the country & the young people are intent on making a life for themselves.

More Good News Rotarians from District 7070 have been working for 4 years in partnership with Ronnie Yimsut, a Killing Fields survivor, to build a school. At age 15, Ronnie was the only person to survive a Killing Fields Massacre. Ronnie has created a vocational school, Bakong Technical College just outside of Siem Reap (the location of Wat) to train & provide local people with skills to assist them to earn a living. The starting courses taught will be languages, tailoring, computers, business management, bike & small engine repair & training for the hospitality business. Many of these people are landmine survivors and/or their families. There are still 5 million landmines in Cambodia.

Over the past few years, Rotarians have sent 3 sweat equity teams totaling 62 people to Cambodia to help build the school & provide significant funding. Two more groups of Rotarians & Friends are going in November 2013. Check our website www.makeanimpact.ca for past trips & updates. This is in partnership with the Canadian Landmine Foundation. The grand opening is scheduled for Nov 25 2013 & the first students will be starting Jan/Feb. 2014. How You Can Be A Part of The Good News

We really need some financial assistance to help furnish the school, pay the teachers & help to educate the students. Your financial help will allow many marginalized Khmer young people to learn skills & assist them to earn an income.

We hope you can help. If so, please fill in below. ======
