It’s Wood Street, , 1910. The hub of the Walthamstow film industry which sprang to life in the first few decades of the 20th Century.

Studios including Precision, Broadwest and Cunard made their home in the Walthamstow suburbs to stop the smog of central appearing in their films. Nearly 400 silent movies were made here in less than 20 years.

The studios found extras for their films in the pub which is still here on Wood Street. Today’s Wood Street Indoor Market used to be the site of the Penny Picture Theatre company. Today the market is filled with over 30 quirky market traders selling vintage fashion, vinyl, jewellery, mind, body and soul goods, and gifts.
