This Week in our Parish

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On this Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we reflect on the beautiful story of the Good Samaritan in St. Luke’s Gospel. Jesus was questioned by a scholar of the law Fifteenth Sunday in regarding the requirements for inheriting eternal life. Ordinary Time Jesus turns the question back on the scholar and he answers quite correctly: “You shall love the Lord, your

God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as SATURDAY, JULY 13 yourself.” Jesus tells him simply: “You have answered 4:00 pm Vigil Mass (SJ) correctly; do this and you will live.” Since the scholar 5:30 pm Vigil Mass (IC) already had the correct answer to the question he had asked Jesus to answer, he looked a bit like a fool. So he SUNDAY, JULY 14 moves the conversation forward with yet another question 8:00 am Sunday Mass (SJ) to Jesus: “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus, the master 10:30 am Sunday Mass (IC) story-teller, answers that question in one of the most 1:00 pm St. Joseph Benevolent Society Member’s poignant stories in Scripture.
