Tony Clark Collection, 1880-2008 University Archives Eastern Connecticut State University BIOGRAPHY: Owen Anton “Tony” Clark was born on October 26, 1933 in Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1951, served four years in the Navy and worked as a letter carrier for nearly 20 years. He settled in Willimantic, Connecticut with his wife, Kathleen “Kathy” (McCarthy) Clark and their six children in 1979. Tony and Kathy contributed their time and energy to benefit their neighbors and to speak out for causes of peace and justice. 2 “Their voices could be heard singing at peace vigils, in local pubs on St. Patrick’s Day and on many other occasions…People still remember ‘the guys who helped out when people needed it.’” Tony was interested in all aspects of his beloved Willimantic which lead to extensive research into its history especially of the buildings along Main Street. This collection is a testament to that work. Tony died on July 8th in 2009. 1

Series VI – Photographs is the largest segment of the collection. It offers images of local mills, streets, schools and buildings particularly along Main Street in Willimantic. Most of the images are photocopies of original photographs and postcards shared from the collection of his friend, Francois J. Gamache of Willimantic.
