FACOR: A TURNAROUND STORY IN THE MAKING

It’s yet another turnaround story in the making at Vedanta. Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited (FACOR), which was acquired by the country’s largest natural resources conglomerate under the approved resolution plan last year, is putting in place the building blocks to create a strong leadership team to replicate the success of Cairn Oil & Gas, BALCO, Hindustan and ESL.

FACOR has been a great addition to the Vedanta Group comprising its assts, Charge Chrome Plant and Power Plant. FACOR is one of ’s largest producer and exporter of ferro alloys, an essential ingredient to produce stainless steel and specialty steels.

The acquisition will complement Vedanta’s existing steel business as the vertical integration of ferro manufacturing capabilities has the potential to generate significant efficiencies and will help Vedanta to increase its portfolio in steel business. FACOR offers tremendous growth potential by enhancing its mining capacities multifold alongside the associated value addition facilities.

COVID VACCINE UPDATES

India paced up its covid-19 vaccination drive this week, becoming the quickest in the world to go past 7 million vaccine doses on Wednesday. Around 37% of these doses were given in just the last seven days. But with some states still lagging in progress, the health ministry has now come up with strict deadlines for completing the first phase. States have been asked to complete the first- round vaccination of all healthcare workers by 20 February.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday he had assured Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau that India would do its best to supply Canada with vaccines to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, potentially easing shortages faced in the country. India, which boasts several vaccine manufacturing facilities, is fast emerging as a key supplier of shots to the world. Canada does not yet have a vaccine manufacturing facility of its own and is reliant on foreign suppliers.
