Women’s History is Everywhere: 10 Ideas for Celebrating In Communities A How-To Community Handbook Prepared by The President’s Commission on the Celebration of Women in American History “Just think of the ideas, the inventions, the social movements that have so dramatically altered our society. Now, many of those movements and ideas we can trace to our own founding, our founding documents: the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. And we can then follow those ideas as they move toward Seneca Falls, where 150 years ago, women struggled to articulate what their rights should be. From women’s struggle to gain the right to vote to gaining the access that we needed in the halls of academia, to pursuing the jobs and business opportunities we were qualified for, to competing on the field of sports, we have seen many breathtaking changes. Whether we know the names of the women who have done these acts because they stand in history, or we see them in the television or the newspaper coverage, we know that for everyone whose name we know there are countless women who are engaged every day in the ordinary, but remarkable, acts of citizenship.” —- Hillary Rodham Clinton, March 15, 1999 Women’s History is Everywhere: 10 Ideas for Celebrating In Communities A How-To Community Handbook prepared by the President’s Commission on the Celebration of Women in American History Commission Co-Chairs: Ann Lewis and Beth Newburger Commission Members: Dr. Johnnetta B. • Catalog of Library Books Recommended for School Districts in The
H18TORICAL SOClETf OF ,NA, CATALOG OF LIBRARY BOOKS RECOMMENDED FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF MONTANA 1920 Property of School, District No County CATALOG OF LIBRARY BOOKS RECOMMENDED FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF MONTANA Issued by MAY TRUMPER, Superintendent of Public Instruction 1920 INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING CO. HELENA, MONTANA ESTTB0DUCTI01N This list of books for school libraries was first prepared in 1912 by G. A. Ketcham then Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, now principal of the Missoula County High School. In this reprint of the catalog, books now out of print have been eliminated and additional books published since 1912 have been added. Due to the excellence of the list as prepared by Mr. Ketcham no other revision has been at- tempted. MAY TRUMPER. PREFACE Schools without a library should be as rare as those without a dic- tionary, a blackboard, or a map. Every district has a library fund which should be expended each year for additional books. No attempt has been made to include a complete list of high school or teachers' books altho a few appear. No books for general reading for adults have been listed as school library funds should not be used for purchasing such books. The books listed are recommended for certain grades. The person selecting books from this catalog should keep in mind that a child's appreciation of literature is not always determined by the grade to which he may belong Children from homes in which much reading is done are likely to enjoy books listed for higher grades than are children of the same age from homes where no reading is done.
