Biographical note Craig Hosmer was born in Brea, California, May 6, 1915. His education includes several years at the University of California where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1937. Graduate work followed at the University of Michigan in 1938 and at the University of Southern California where he served as the editor of the Law Review, 1939-1940. He earned a J.D. degree and was admitted to the California Bar in 1940. The following year he attended the Naval Academy and did active duty in the Navy until 1946. He maintained his connection with the USNR after the war, finally reaching the rank of Rear Admiral. In 1947 he settled in Long Beach where he established a law practice. In 1948 he served as a special assistant, U.S. District Attorney for the Atomic Energy Commission at Los Alamos. His special interest with atomic energy commenced with this experience, becoming one of the motivators for seeking public office. In 1952 he ran successfully for Congress and continued to serve his constituents of the 32nd District until 1973. His interest in atomic energy was attended to in the Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and especially in the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy; he became a ranking minority member of the latter. He was appointed an adviser to the 18 Nation Disarmament Delegation and advisor to the U.S. Atoms-for-Peace Delegation, Geneva, 1958,1963, and 1971.
