8 • Athens Land Trust • 2018 Annual Report Neighborhood Revitalization When neighborhood residents and community leaders identified the meaningful reuse of the West Broad School as a vital component of future neighborhood revitalization activities, they sought to bring educational, creative, and vocational opportunities for youth and families, while preserving a landmark of Athens' African American history. In this spirit, ALT worked with partners in the West Broad revitalization process, including neighborhood residents, to put forth:

a comprehensive revitalization initiative for the West Broad neighborhood. Its centerpiece is the development of the West Broad Community Campus and heritage site. The campus will bring together youth, their families, and their community to learn, work, and celebrate, while highlighting Athens’ African American history and culture.

As 2018 came to a close, ALT was awarded $2.9 million in capital funding from Athens- Clarke County to support the development of the West Broad
