The following is a suggestion of what should be in the percussion “arsenal” for middle school & high school music programs (marching not included) Use it as a reference and check off list

√ 1 drumset at both levels consisting of a 4 or 5 piece set with 14” hi hats, 20” medium ride and 16” med-thin to thin crash √ 2 concert snare on extended concert stands. 14” x 5.5” chrome, and 14” x 6.5” wood model √ 1 Field (old fashioned type, not modern high tension models) √ Concert 26”- 32” Middle school, suspension/tilting stand, 1 general & 2 roller mallets 32”- 40” High School, suspension/tilting stand, 1 general & 2 roller mallets

√ 18” med thin dark suspended cymbal on a quality stand √ 16” med thin bright suspended cymbal on a quality stand √ 16” heavy & 18” medium Piatti crash cymbals at the middle school 18” medium & 20” medium Piatti crash cymbals at the high school leather straps and pads; and a quality cymbal cradle stand. √ 28” to 34” Chinese style tam tam with two mallets, and sturdy stand

√ 2 ½ oct. quality carbon steel professional bells, stand, hard phenolic headed mallets & brass mallets √ 31/2 oct. xylophone with phenolic mallets & hard rubber mallets √ 4.3 oct. Marimba with soft, medium, med-hard, and hard yarn mallets √ 3 oct. with med, med-hard, and hard cord wrapped mallets √ Chimes with two long and heavy mallets
