TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY MessageATHLETICS DIRECTOR

Dear Ram supporters,

I am Terry Waldrop and serve as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics here at Texas Wesleyan University. It is my honor to welcome you to this informative publication of the athletic department and Texas Wesleyan University, and hope that you find it both informative and useful as you learn more about our great institution.

Located just minutes away from beautiful downtown Fort Worth, Texas Wesleyan University offers student-athletes an outstanding combination of both academic and athletic excellence. Texas Wesleyan University competes in the NAIA at the Division I level and holds membership in the Red River Athletic Conference. The conference is an outstanding one, which includes institutions in Texas, two in Oklahoma and one in New Mexico. It is very diverse in membership including both public and private institutions in addition to several religiously affiliated institutions.

The Rams offer eight intercollegiate sports, including: men and women's soccer and in the fall, men and women's basketball and splitting both semesters, with and baseball competing in the spring. In addition, we also offer junior varsity opportunities in basketball, baseball and soccer. The athletic department is supported by a very strong program in sports medicine under the direction of Dr. Pam Rast, which includes a full-time Head Athletic Trainer, Kyle Morgan. It is also served by a very capable Sports Information Department directed by Logan Lawrence. Melanie Ford serves as Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director (Terry Waldrop) and to the Assistant Athletic Director (Kevin Millikan)

The 2003-04 school year has been an exciting time thus far for Ram fans everywhere. The Ram coaching staff has spent countless hours working on developing their respective programs in terms of teaching, recruiting, fundrais- ing, tutoring, etc., and we are beginning to see the fruits of that labor reflected in both the academic and athletic achievement of the student-athletes. Coaching staff members include former Major League baseball players, Mike Jeffcoat and Toby Harrah, former T.C.U. women's basketball player, Stacy Francis, Texas Wesleyan University alums Kevin Millikan, Rick Johansen, Debi Lamb, and Bobby Cornett. Former St. Edwards baseball standout, David Barrientes, serves as the head softball coach along with Steve Jones (men and womens soccer) and Terry Waldrop in his sixth season as head basketball coach. Brian Master and Brennen Shingleton, both metroplex natives, serve as assistants in baseball and basketball respectively.

The fall 2003 season started off strong with women's volleyball team finishing in the semi-finals of the regional tournament. Our men's soccer program was a semi-finalist in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament as our women's soccer team also excelled, making their second consecutive playoff appearance in as many seasons. The golf team had the most successful fall, winning the Oklahoma Christian Golf tournament and securing a No. 4 national ranking heading into the spring season.

The men and women's basketball teams seem poised to continue their success of a year ago, that saw the men fall just short of the national championship tournament and the women made their first playoff appearance in 13 years. Baseball and softball should also be in contention for con- ference titles this season as both programs have quite a few returning players, a promising recruiting class and high hopes for the season.

If you are a student-athlete, and you are serious about continuing your education as well as continuing your athletic career at a very com- petitive intercollegiate level, come see us and experience first-hand what Texas Wesleyan University has to offer our students.
