Game 1 American 74, Drexel 65 Nov. 16, 2008 Washington, D.C. - Gabriela Marginean scored 22 of her game-high 31 points in the second half, but her spurt was not enough to bring the Dragons back from a 15-point first-half deficit as Drexel lost its season opener 74-65 to the American Eagles (2-0). Freshman Kamile Nacickaite had 11 points in her first game. . Drexel pulled out to an early lead in the first half as Jasmina Rosseel knocked down her first three three-point attempts. Rosseel's third trey gave the Dragons a 16-11 lead before early-season jitters com- bined with tenacious pressure defense by the Eagles kicked in to cause a flurry of Drexel turnovers. The miscues, 13 of them in the first half for the Dragons, cued a 27-7 run by American. Nicole Ryan capped the barrage with a three-pointer from just over half court that banked in at the buzzer, sending the Eagles into the locker room with a 38-23 lead. The Dragons used some pressure of their own to force three early turnovers in the second half and capitalize to trim American's lead to eight points mid- way through the period. A jumper by Marginean fol- lowed up by two Andrea Peterson free throws at the 8:54 mark cut American's lead to just two points at 48-46. But a three-point play and a half-court steal for

a break-away layup by Kirk keyed a 14-4 American Drexel University Dragons run that put the game out of reach for the Dragons.

Game 2 Drexel 76, Saint Joe’s 61 Nov. 19, 2008 Philadelphia - Gabriela Marginean reached the 30- point mark for a second straight game while helping Drexel to its second win in the last three meetings over city rival Saint Joseph's. Drexel (1-1) trailed by as many as 10 points before outscoring the Hawks (1-2) 44-26 in the second half for a 76-61 victory. Jasmina Rosseel chipped in 16 points on 4-for-7 three-point shooting and freshman Kamile Nacickaite led the Dragons with eight rebounds. Marginean was once again a force for the Dragons, scoring 35 points on 13-for-22 shooting from the field. She also grabbed six boards and went 8-for-9 from the line with her first free-throw miss this sea- son. The Dragons, as a team shot 50-percent from the floor. The team's defense held Saint Joseph's to 7-for- 23 shooting in the second period when the Dragons pulled away for the victory. After a sloppy start, Drexel dissipated what had been a 10-point Saint Joseph's advantage midway through the first half and took a pair of short-lived leads before entering the half trailing 35-32. The Hawks opened the second period with another quick start, going on a 5-0 run to take a 41-32 lead on a layup by leading scorer Brittany Ford. But Ford’s bucket would be the last for La Salle for the next 11- plus minutes as Drexel reeled off a 21-1 run capped by a Rosseel three-pointer to close out the win. 2008-09 Drexel Women’ s Basketball

Game 3 La Salle 48, Drexel 46 Nov. 22, 2008 Philadelphia - A pair of free throws by Margaret Elderton with six seconds left in a contest knotted at 46-46 proved to be the decisive points in a 48-46 loss to La Salle (3-1) in another tight city rivalry game. Gabriela Marginean finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Dragons (2-1) in both categories.

After shooting 50 percent from the floor in the first half and leading by six at the break. Drexel's offense ground to a halt in the second period as the team shot just 27.8 percent from the field and 1-for-9 from deep. The Dragons managed just 17 points on seven field goals and a pair of free throws. La Salle did not generate much more in their offensive sets, shooting just 28.6 percent (6-for-21), but the Explorers made 19 trips to the free-throw line and converted 12 of them. Morgan Robertson led La Salle with 13 points, seven from the foul line, and five rebounds.

Elderton earned her free tosses after a foul was called on Drexel’s Tyler Hale. As Elderton brought the ball up the court with 22 seconds remaining. She tried to shake her defender, Marisa Crane, by dribbling around a series of three screens on the perimeter.

Drexel's defense switched on the picks. Hale popped Drexel University Dragons out to cover her off the final screen and was immedi- ately whistled for the blocking foul.

Game 4 Drexel 44, Bucknell 35 Nov. 25, 2008 Lewisburg, Pa. - Gabriela Marginean poured in 33 of Drexel's 44 points and also led her team with 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 44-35 trampling of former ECC rival Bucknell on the road. Freshmen Tyler Hale and Kamile Nacickaite each grabbed eight boards to contribute to Drexel's sea- son-high 43-board effort. The Dragons improve to 2-2 on the season heading into this weekend's tourna- ment at the University of Colorado. Aside from Marginean's astounding performance, the story of the game was Drexel's defense against the Bison, who entered the game with a perfect 3-0 record which was the team's best start in more than two decades. The Dragons held Bucknell to 25.4 per- cent shooting from the floor and the Bison's 35 points was their lowest offensive output in the pro- gram's history. Contributing in large part to the team's stifling defense was senior Brooke Cornish who swatted three shots for a second straight game. Nacickaite and Nicole Hester also had two blocks and Hale had one swat and two steals. Marginean scored 17 of Drexel's 20 points in the first half, helping to keep the Dragons in a 20-20 tie at halftime despite shooting 26.7 percent from the floor and just 2-of-9 from deep. The only points other than Marginean's came from the hand of Nacickaite who knocked down a three with 4:24 left in the half. 2008-09 Drexel Women’ s Basketball

Game 5 Minnesota 74, Drexel 50 Nov. 28, 2008 Boulder, Colo. – Drexel played Minnesota (5-1) to a tight game through 20 minutes in the first half, but a 32-27 halftime lead by the Gophers quickly swelled in the second half as they went on to defeat the Dragons 74-50 in the opening game of the University of Colorado Coors Classic Tournament. Gabriela Marginean led Drexel with 15 points and nine rebounds and senior guard Andrea Peterson put in a season-high seven points, all in the first half. Drexel (2-3) shot season lows form the floor, beyond the arc and at the free-throw line as Minnesota rolled to its 5th straight victory. Free throws kept Drexel in the game in the first half as the Dragons went for more than five minutes without a field goal midway through the period. But the Dragons knocked down 10-of-11 from the charity stripe and entered the locker room trailing by just five points 32-27 despite putting in just seven buck- ets from the floor. Andrea Peterson led the team in the first half with a season-high seven points. Peterson played solid defense against the Gophers’ leading scorer to hold her scoreless in the first period. But Minnesota pulled away with a 21-5 run early in the half. The Dragons went cold from the line, Drexel University Dragons shooting just 3-for-11 from the stripe and 9-for-29 (31%) from the floor and were outrebounded 24-12.

Game 6 Drexel 67, Colorado 63 Nov. 29, 2008 Boulder, Colo. – After being shackled with foul trou- ble through 12 minutes in the first half, Gabriela Marginean broke free in the second to score 26 of her game-high 32 points and lead the Dragons (3-3) to a 67-63 come-from-behind victory over the host Colorado (2-3) in the consolation game of the Coors Classic Tournament. Marginean scored the Dragons’ final 12 points including a driving layup with 17 sec- onds left to break a 63-63 tie. On the Buffs' next trip down the court, Marginean perfectly timed a swipe and sprinted to the opposite end for the game-sealing layup. Drexel trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half before battling back for its first ever win against a Big 12 opponent. Marginean finished a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line, all in the second half, to tie a CU Coors Classic Tournament record for free tosses with- out a miss. Jasmina Rosseel was the Dragons’ second leading scorer with 10 points. She set a tournament record for three-point attempts and knocked down a key trey in the second half during the final run that allowed Drexel come back for the win. Marginean was named to the All-Tournament team after her performance on the weekend, which also included setting a one-half scoring tournament record with 26 in the second half against Colorado. 2008-09 Drexel Women’ s Basketball

Game 7 Army 55, Drexel 49 Dec. 5, 2008 Philadelphia - Drexel (3-4) came all the way back after trailing by 14 points in the first half to take a three- point lead with 8:51 left in the game. But a 10-0 run by Army over the next four minutes allowed the Black Knights (4-4) to pull away for a 55-49 victory. Gabriela Marginean led all scorers with 25 points and swiped a career-high five steals, but it was not enough to give the Dragons their second home win of the season. Erin Anthony registered a 16-point, 10- rebound double-double for the Black Knights, who even their record at 4-4 with the win. Drexel held Army scoreless for a span of 10 min- utes and 37 seconds from the end of the first half through nearly half of the second period. During this time Drexel used a 13-0 spurt to pull ahead for the first time since early in the contest. A put-back layup by Andrea Peterson put her team on top 33-32 at the 12:36 mark. A steal and a layup by Nalini Hawkins, who finished with 10 points for Army, quenched the Knights' drought, but Drexel maintained its advantage for the next five minutes on a series of layups in the paint by Marginean, Nicole Hester and Brooke Cornish. Hester canned a jumper with 8:48 left to put Drexel on top by three, but Army scored the next 10 points of the Drexel University Dragons game to pull ahead by seven with 4:24 to go. From there the Knights closed out their victory.

Game 8 Drexel 62, Penn 52 Dec. 19, 2008 Philadelphia - Freshman Kamile Nacickaite dropped in a career-high 17 points and fellow rookie Marisa Crane hit for personal bests with eight points, a game-high five assists and four rebounds as the Dragons received a balanced scoring effort in a 62-52 victory over Penn (2-7) at the . Gabriela Marginean led Drexel with 21 points and nine rebounds despite being limited by foul trouble. Drexel used a 21-1 run spanning the end of the first and beginning of the second half to pull away for its first win over Penn at the Palestra since 1992. Drexel trailed by eight points with just over two minutes left in the first half. But after shaking off the dust from a two-week hiatus, the Dragons warmed up to hold their University City counterpart scoreless for nearly 10 minutes while pulling out to a decisive lead. A pair of Marginean layups resulting from steals nar- rowed the gap to 32-28 at halftime. Nacickaite helped provide the Dragons' with a complementary scorer to go along with Marginean, who was the NCAA's top scorer entering the week. She shot 7-for-10 from the floor, heading a 40.7 shooting effort by the Dragons who came into the game shooting just 37 percent from the field. Crane came off the bench to give her team 20 solid minutes. She matched her career high with eight points and handed out five assists. 2008-09 Drexel Women’ s Basketball

Game 9 Richmond 73, Drexel 60 Dec. 22, 2008 Philadelphia - Drexel saw an eight-point lead vanish in the opening minutes of the second half as Richmond (10-1) used 60 percent shooting from the floor and 21 points from Brittani Shells in the period to pull away for a 73-60 victory over the Dragons (4- 5). Gabriela Marginean led Drexel with 28 points and a career-high tying four three-pointers. Kamile Nacickaite chipped in 14 point and a game-high nine rebounds in her first career start. Jasmina Rosseel added 12 on four three-pointers. Drexel led 33-27 at halftime and pushed its advan- tage to eight points on a pair of Marginean free throws early in the second period. Richmond responded with a 9-0 spurt fueled by the jump shots of Johanna McKnight and Brittani Shells. The Dragons' zone defense, which frustrated the Spiders into shooting 35.7 percent in the first half, was vic- timized by a series of mid-range jumpers that got Richmond back into the game. The Dragons outshot Richmond in the first half, converting 40 percent from the field and shooting 4- for-9 from deep. Drexel also held a slight 17-15 rebounding edge over the Spiders at the break. Richmond would finish the game 47.7 percent from the field after shooting 60 percent in the second half Drexel University Dragons (15-25).

Game 10 Holy Cross 63, Drexel 58 Dec. 28, 2008 Philadelphia – Drexel came all the way back from a 16-point deficit to take a lead on Holy Cross seven minutes into the second half. But the Crusaders (2-9) converted a flurry of free-throws down the stretch as Drexel (4-6) fell in painful fashion 63-58. Gabriela Marginean scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds before fouling out in the final seconds of the game on a charging call. Sophomore Jasmina Rosseel posted career-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds, including five three-pointers, but the Dragons fell just short in the opening game of the Saint Joseph’s Hawk Classic at Philadelphia University. Kamile Nacickaite scored 12 points and shot 2-for- 5 from deep, giving the Dragons three players in dou- ble-figure scoring for a second straight game.
