GODLY PLAY AND CHAPEL NEWS

Over the next few weeks, students will learn about specific events in the life of Moses. We begin this study with the Godly Play story of "The Exodus." The students will learn the importance of this event for the people of God and its connection to the subsequent Passover celebration. This story is found in the Book of Exodus, and the chapel reading for the week will be Exodus 14:21-22.

The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will hear about the times in our lives that we celebrate during their Community Chapel service. While the first through fifth grade students will hear thoughts from Steve Hickman, ECS Head of School, about the Exodus story. Please know that families are always welcome at any of our Community Chapel services.

FAMILY HANDBOOK FACT OF THE WEEK

Please remember that snacks/treats and (other than water) which are brought for a class are not allowed unless special arrangements have been made with the teacher. Such requests should be limited to very special occasions such as celebrating a child’s birthday. If snacks/treats for the class are brought to school without prior approval, they will not be given out to students. They will be sent home or turned into the Division Office.

We ask that our families be diligent in following this school policy.

IMPORTANT CARPOOL REMINDERS

 In the mornings and afternoons, all vehicles are required to enter the campus and go one way – all the way around the Upper and Middle School before coming to the Lower School. Please don’t make a “U-turn” around the cones and approach the Lower School from the front of the campus. The campus is one way only during the morning and afternoon carpool times.  Please do NOT enter the campus from the gates on North Street. Those gates are to be used as an exit only for those cars turning right on Cantrell Road.  The gate to North Street is for vehicular traffic only. Please do not park on North Street and walk onto the campus to pick up your child. Additionally, do not drop your child off at the North Street gate and ask your child to walk onto campus.  If you arrive for carpool early, please do not leave your car parked in the carpool line and come into the building. If you need to come into the building for any reason, you should park in the parking lot in front of the Lower School.  Cell phones should not be used while driving on campus. When moving on campus, please watch carefully for pedestrians or other drivers. Just yesterday, a driver, while talking on the cellphone, had to slam on the brakes to avoid pedestrians in the crosswalk. We must make the safety of our school community the number one priority while driving on campus!

We appreciate your assistance in keeping everyone on campus safe!

FAMILY HANDBOOK ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND DIRECTORY PREFERENCE DUE TODAY!

The 2011-2012 Family Handbook and Dress Code are available under the Parent section of the Episcopal Collegiate website. Please make a priority of reading the LS or MS/US Handbook and acknowledging that you agree to the terms and policies in the handbook for each member of your family enrolled at Episcopal Collegiate School. Additionally, we are ready for you to select your preferences for inclusion in the Family Directory. It is accessible through the password protected Wildcat Web. To accept the terms of the handbook and select your directory listing preference, please log into the Wildcat Web and update your profile. Each student in your household will have a small checkbox toward the bottom of the page that says you have read and accept the terms of the handbook. If you want to change the default information that will appear in the directory from address, phone, and email, you can do so with the directory preference drop down in the same update profile page. After you accept the handbook and make any needed changes to your directory preference, place a check in the box indicating that you want to update the information and then click the save button. You may view a short video which demonstrates how to select directory preferences and accept the terms outlined in the handbook (please allow time for the video to load.)
