Historical Note
Clowes Memorial Hall is a theatre located on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. It opened on October 18, 1963. It hosts concerts, orchestras, musicals, plays, and guest speakers. Clowes Hall was dedicated to the memory of Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes, the former director biochemical research for Eli Lilly and Company. Clowes and his wife had a lifetime love of the arts. The building was designed by architects Evans Woollen III of Woollen, Molzan and Partners and John Johansen. It was originally intended to be used by both Butler University and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 the orchestra moved to Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis.
