2020 SURVEY RESULTS SUMMARY PREPARATORY FROM THE HEADMASTER

2020 has certainly been an unusual year, one that has presented enormous challenges, created changes we could never have imagined and given us a deep sense of gratitude for many of the things we hold close – including our school and the education and friendships it provides. While the College rapidly settled in to its ‘new normal’ in 2020, it was not without its stresses, strains, triumphs and u-turns. We regularly survey parents about a whole range of aspects of their son’s education at Newington, but this year it seemed even more important to understand if the upheaval of 2020 had fundamentally changed how parents and students viewed the school. We chose to survey boys and families who were at key transition phases in their schooling, in Years 6, 9 and 12, and commissioned MMG to conduct a survey taking in responses from 406 parents and 516 boys. It measured satisfaction across a broad sweep of College life, most critically our academic, co-curricular, pastoral and sport programs. I’m pleased to say all our campuses are in great shape, with overall satisfaction levels from parents in the top ‘very high’ band at Stanmore, Wyvern House Prep and Lindfield Prep. Across parent of boys in years 6, 9 and 12, 84 per cent agree we are instilling integrity and open-mindedness in their son. Students in Years 6, 9 and 12 put the College in the ‘high’ band – a good result, and one we are happy with given the typical trend for students to provide lower scores than their parents. Nonetheless, we are digging deeper into their responses and will adjust things where we need to. This booklet contains a snapshot of the overall survey results, providing you with an understanding of where we are excelling and where we need to provide more focus. I would like to thank you for participating in the survey. Your input is invaluable and will help shape the College in coming years.
