Why Become a Helicopter Pilot?

If flying is your passion, then Helicopter Training is what you need. Our goal is to make you a professional helicopter pilot in just few months. The decision to become a Professional Helicopter pilot is currently a very wise one.

The big demand for rotor wing pilots has been created due to heavy demand in Helicopter Operation and number of Helicopter Imports to India. Currently 367 helicopters are awaiting their Permits and this number will rise exponentially with the increasing need for helicopter services in India.

In the coming year 2013, an additional 300 helicopters are expected to fly the Indian skies. There are over 367 NOC’s for Helicopter import filed by various charter companies as per DGCA sources.

More than 350 Helipads are being built in the country mostly catering to the need of air ambulance, high rise building evacuation, private helipads, corporate helipads etc…

Due to heavy demand for Helicopter Pilots in India All leading charter companies are offering excellent incentives to candidates to make their career in Helicopter Industry by offering them Letter of Intent for Job even before they finish their CHPL course.

An experienced and good helicopter Pilot is currently getting paid Rupees 3.00 Lac and above per month.

Some applications of Helicopter where India will see exponential growth by 2013 are:

¤ Deep Sea Oil Projects. ¤ Aerial Photography and films. ¤ Emergency Medical Services. ¤ VIP and corporate executive travel. ¤ Helicopter tourism. ¤ Power line survey ¤ Air Ambulance. ¤ Geophysical mineral survey. ¤ Emergency Fire Fighting ¤ Dam Projects. ¤ Electronic News Gathering ¤ Disaster Management. ¤ State Police and Law Enforcements ¤ Aerial coverage of sports events.

Today Multinational companies like ONGC, ESSAR, RELIANCE, JINDALS, PUNJ LLOYD and almost all state Government, wish to own their fleet of helicopters for their particulars needs, charter services and offshore operations. CPL VS CHPL

With more than 550 helicopters expected to touch the Indian skies by the 2013, there will be an acute shortage of helicopter pilots, if India does not ramp up its current training facilities of just 18 Helicopter Pilots in 18 months. Helicopters are the back bone for police force, emergency medical evacuation, and fire fighting in countries around the world. India is on the look out to induct an entire fleet of helicopters for all the above operations.

Currently there are only 280 helicopters with state and commercial use in India Compared to 15,000 in U.S, and 2,300 in Australia.

Till recently most of the helicopter pilots jobs in India were filled up by prematurely retired helicopter pilots from the Indian Air Force. But now due to better salaries in defence forces after the 6th Pay commission, that has reversed and more jobs are available for freshly trained youths.

Further the DGCA has issued notice to all airlines and charter operators in the country to let go of foreign pilots. India has enough experienced commercial pilots who can fill the positions in the fixed wing sector, but the big question is “Are there enough experienced helicopter pilots in the country ? ”

The Helicopter industry has understood that they need experienced as well as freshly trained helicopter pilots to carry on with their growing operation.

Helicopter growth is the next big thing in the aviation industry in India, and creating a huge demand for experienced as well as fresh Helicopter Pilots. Why Train Overseas?

There is currently only one training center in India HAL, Bangalore which trains Helicopter Pilots in India. They have a full training capacity of 18 students. That means India trains only 18 Helicopter Pilots per year.

The HAL - Bangalore training course takes around 18 months compared to only 5 months abroad!

The cost of training is 30% cheaper abroad with more advanced well maintained Helicopters which are available there. Students also have the option to get Instructor Rating and get the option to train students from other parts of the world in schools abroad and thus logging in more flying hours under their belt.

In our endeavor to provide our students with global employability, our students are exposed to the best facilities available in flying. The best helicopter training school costs anywhere between 60,000 USD to 90,000 USD depending on the type of helicopters used for training.

We have made helicopter training affordable at an all inclusive cost of USD 50,000 to USD 65,000 which includes 150 Hours of training with accommodation.

LICENSE CONVERSION

On completion of your Helicopter training program you will receive a Commercial Helicopter Pilot License and Instrument Rating from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from California Aviation Services– California – USA. Programs are designed for international students with no flying experience.

The FAA licenses are recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and are accepted by all member states of that organization, and may be used to obtain any national certificate through a conversion procedure. We will help you convert your License with the Indian Aviation authority (DGCA). We will also help the CPL (Fixed Wing) holders to convert into CHPL as per DGCA rules. California Aviation Services is the primary flight school source for Initial Airborne Law Enforcement Pilot Training and Civilian Pilot Training in the United States of America. CA Aviation Services proprietary Pilot Career Course Training Program is designed for Professionals, and will have the Pilot qualified with a Private Pilot License in AS LITTLE AS 3 WEEKS.

California Aviation Services is owned and operated by Leo and Raquel Bell. . Leo began flight training in 1979, while he was in high school. He trained in a Cessna 150 on the weekends to earn his private pilot airplane license. He continued on to college as he continued to build flight experience in airplanes.

In 1983 he began helicopter training in Missouri. He became CFI and began to teach. A year later he received his college degree in aeronautics. He returned to California and began flight school with Floyd Hiser. (Hiser Aviation Inc. became the largest flight training school on the United States west coast with a fleet of over 30 training aircraft.)

Throughout his early helicopter career, Leo was a chief pilot, chief flight instructor, and primary long-line (external load) pilot. Along with his work for Hiser, he began government contract work in the aerial firefighting industry and began to bid for law enforcement training and patrol work. He enrolled in the Sheriff’s academy and became a deputy sheriff for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Leo continued to work days and vacation periods with Hiser and nights with the Sheriff’s. His flight duties were: patrol, surveillance, search and rescue, mountain, desert, and metro. In 1991 he transferred to the Riverside County Sheriff where he worked street level patrol, narcotics, then due to his experience at Hiser and S.B.S.O., he was assigned to assist in the implementation of the Riverside Sheriff’s aviation unit. After funding was approved and helicopters were ordered, he was assigned as Chief Pilot and Unit Flight Instructor.

During the same year, he was appointed by the FAA as Designated Pilot Examiner. When Hiser Aviation Inc. relocated out of state, he continued with law enforcement agencies to provide pilot and ground training for their personnel.

In 1994, Leo returned to street patrol, where he found more fulfillment working directly with people instead of above them. He was nominated for Officer of the Year while assigned to streets. That October he was asked by several law enforcement agencies to open a flight school. He bought one Robinson R22 helicopter through a past customer who agreed to finance the aircraft.

Additionally our Flight Instructors assist out of town students with adaptation to the Southern California lifestyle during their stay.

Airplane Lessons and Helicopter Lessons are conducted under the direction of our Chief Pilot (Leo Bell) who is an Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor with over 20,000 hours of flight experience, including Police, Firefighting, Major Airlines, and Flight Training.

Many of our pilot graduates are now news media pilots, charter pilots, airline pilots, firefighting pilots, and corporate pilots. In addition, Leo travels throughout the United States and several foreign countries conducting a variety of aviation courses and pilot seminars. We invite you to "Learn To Be A Pilot" today!
