Laura Moré Tutora: Núria Jornet Màster De Biblioteques I Col∙Leccions Patrimonials Curs 2013-2014 Convocatòria: Juny 2014 Resum Executiu Autora: Laura Moré Tutora: Núria Jornet Màster de Biblioteques i Col∙leccions Patrimonials Curs 2013-2014 Convocatòria: Juny 2014 Resum executiu Al llarg de la seva història, la majoria de biblioteques universitàries han rebut materials més propis dels arxius, que sovint han quedat oblidats en els magatzems, sense rebre cap tractament i, per tant, sense ser accessibles als usuaris. Les causes d'aquesta situació són: la naturalesa mateixa dels materials, que requereix un tractament complex; la manca de personal a les biblioteques i, sobretot, de personal amb la formació necessària per tractar- la; i la manca d'estàndards per al seu processament. Des de fa uns anys, la comunitat bibliotecària internacional ha entès que aquests materials constitueixen fonts primàries úniques per a la investigació i els diferents països han portat a terme diferents iniciatives, aprofitant també la gran oportunitat que suposa la digitalització i la publicació en repositoris institucionals d'accés obert. Aquest treball intenta fer una panoràmica de la visibilitat que les biblioteques universitàries donen als fons personals i les col·leccions especials i s'ha cregut interessant abordar-lo des de tres àmbits geogràfics molt inter-relacionats: Catalunya, Espanya i Europa. Els objectius són: • Veure si es dóna visibilitat als fons personals i les col·leccions especials custodiades a les biblioteques universitàries, a través dels seus llocs web. • Establir uns models de visibilitat, basats en els recursos d'informació de la biblioteca mitjançant els quals es dóna visibilitat a aquests materials. • Intentar determinar si hi ha un els models que funciona millor que els altres en termes de visibilitat. Com que en l'actual context tecnològic parlar de visibilitat equival a presència a internet, l'estudi s'ha basat en la consulta dels llocs web de biblioteques universitàries. S'han creat tres grups de biblioteques, un per a cada àmbit geogràfic, amb el criteri comú de pertinença a un consorci (per a les catalanes el CBUC, les espanyoles REBIUN i les europees LIBER). S'han analitzat un total de 309 biblioteques (10 catalanes, 57 espanyoles i 242 europees). La metodologia aplicada ha estat la simulació de l'experiència de l'usuari en la navegació pel lloc web i la consulta dels recursos d'informació (i.e., catàleg i repositori). Després de l'anàlisi de totes les biblioteques, es pot establir que existeixen uns models de visibilitat: el model de màxima visibilitat, el model combinat i el model de visibilitat única. De tots ells i les seves diverses combinacions, el model que obté millors resultats és el de màxima visibilitat perquè, en multiplicar els punts de visibilitat (web, catàleg i repositori), aconsegueix que tant l'usuari que sap el que busca com el l'usuari accidental arribin els fons personals i col·leccions especials. Per mostrar un exemple real d'aplicació d'aquest model de visibilitat, s'ha fet un estudi de cas del tractament d'una col·lecció especial, el Fons Salomó Marquès. Magisteri Exiliat de Catalunya, que custodia la Biblioteca de la Universitat de Girona. Es tracta d'un donatiu que inclou diverses tipologies documentals i el fet de catalogar-lo al catàleg ha permès mantenir-ne la integritat, malgrat que els materials hagin rebut diferents tractaments i es trobin en diverses ubicacions. Des del repositori DUGi FonsEspecials properament es donarà accés als documents digitalitzats. El portal web de Fons Especials UdG conté la informació que permet contextualitzar el fons i actua com a plataforma d'accés a tots els recursos d'informació inter-relacionats. Maximitzar la visibilitat té la finalitat que aquests fons s'utilitzin com a fonts primàries de recerca i que els treballs i les publicacions que se'n derivin aportin prestigi a la Universitat i atreguin més investigadors.     British Conservative Women MPs and ‘Women’s Issues’ 1950-1979 Katie Haessly, BA MA Thesis submitted to the University of Nottingham for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy December 2010 1 Abstract In the period 1950-1979, there were significant changes in legislation relating to women’s issues, specifically employment, marital and guardianship and abortion rights. This thesis explores the impact of Conservative female MPs on these changes as well as the changing roles of women within the party. In addition there is a discussion of the relationships between Conservative women and their colleagues which provides insights into the changes in gender roles which were occurring at this time. Following the introduction the next four chapters focus on the women themselves and the changes in the above mentioned women’s issues during the mid-twentieth century and the impact Conservative women MPs had on them. The changing Conservative attitudes are considered in the context of the wider changes in women’s roles in society in the period. Chapter six explores the relationship between women and men of the Conservative Parliamentary Party, as well as men’s impact on the selected women’s issues. These relationships were crucial to enhancing women’s roles within the party, as it is widely recognised that women would not have been able to attain high positions or affect the issues as they did without help from male colleagues. Finally, the female Labour MPs in the alteration of women’s issues is discussed in Chapter seven. Labour women’s relationships both with their party and with Conservative women are also examined.

    Howard J. Garber Letter Collection This collection was the gift of Howard J. Garber to Case Western Reserve University from 1979 to 1993. Dr. Howard Garber, who donated the materials in the Howard J. Garber Manuscript Collection, is a former Clevelander and alumnus of Case Western Reserve University. Between 1979 and 1993, Dr. Garber donated over 2,000 autograph letters, documents and books to the Department of Special Collections. Broadcasting Regular broadcasting in Great Britain has existed since 1922. The BBC is the UK's publicly funded radio, television and internet broadcasting corporation, and is the oldest and largest broadcaster in the world. It operates several television channels and radio stations both in the UK and abroad. The BBC's international television news service, BBC World, is broadcast throughout the world and the BBC World Service radio network is broadcast in thirty-three languages globally. The domestic services of the BBC are funded by the television license, a legal requirement for any British household with a television receiver that is in use to receive broadcasts, regardless of whether or not the householders watch BBC channels.     Etica & Politica / Ethics & Politics, X, 2008, 2, pp. 185-209 Sidgwick’s Philosophical Intuitions Anthony Skelton Department of Philosophy University of Western Ontario [email protected] ABSTRACT Sidgwick famously claimed that an argument in favour of utilitarianism might be provided by demonstrating that a set of defensible philosophical intuitions undergird it. This paper focuses on those philosophical intuitions. It aims to show which specific intuitions Sidgwick endorsed, and to shed light on their mutual connections. It argues against many rival interpretations that Sidgwick maintained that six philosophical intuitions constitute the self- evident grounds for utilitarianism, and that those intuitions appear to be specifications of a negative principle of universalization (according to which differential treatments must be based on reasonable grounds alone). In addition, this paper attempts to show how the intuitions function in the overall argument for utilitarianism. The suggestion is that the intuitions are the main positive part of the argument for the view, which includes Sidgwick's rejection of common-sense morality and its philosophical counterpart, dogmatic intuitionism. The paper concludes by arguing that some of Sidgwick's intuitions fail to meet the conditions for self-evidence which Sidgwick himself established and applied to the rules of common-sense morality. 0.
