Opportunities to Build Cultural Competence March 2019

March 6-April 28: Warm Water collection, Recurring weekly Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at UICA, 2 W. Fulton street, Warm Water is a collection of re-narrated visual works based on the event that sparked the Chicago Race Riot of 1919. These works unfold the story involving five Black teens, and what reportedly caused the death of Eugene Williams in Lake Michigan on the South Side of Chicago. The works document and shed light on the marginalizing oppositions the teens faced during the fragile height of racial socio-political conditions nationwide. March 20th: Diversity Lecture Series, Jessica Valenti, 7:00 pm at Fountain Street Church, 24, Fountain NE, FREE, Jessica Valenti has led the national conversation on modern feminism for more than a decade. She has also been widely credited with sparking the online wave of the women’s movement. Valenti’s articles have topped the most-read lists at The Atlantic, the Guardian US, and The Washington Post. She has also written for The New York Times, Salon, The American Prospect, Bitch, Ms. Magazine, and The Toast.
