Fall 2017, Spring 2018 Teaching Assistant: Reading Assessment and Development • Coached and mentored preservice teachers in their weekly tutoring sessions by reviewing lesson plans, observing their instruction, and conferencing with them after tutoring session to solicit their reflection. • Supported preservice teachers in developing asset-based perspectives of students, particularly through the use of a revised running record and miscue analysis assignment. • Coordinated a class field trip to a local public library and created a text-set assignment aimed at introducing preservice teachers to children’s literature and informational texts. • Collaborated with course instructor to include inquiry-oriented instructional approach for tutoring beginning kindergarten students that emphasized the use of informational texts and kindergarten students’ interests as a method to support their literacy learning.
