CAROLINA INKS THREE STANDOUTS FOR 2007-08 The University of North Carolina women's basketball program signed three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent, head coach Sylvia Hatchell announced Nov. 7.

The three members of the class of 2011 are Cetera DeGraffenreid from Cullowhee, N.C., Rebecca Gray from Georgetown, Ky., and Italee Lucas of Las Vegas, Nev.

"I am delighted that we have three great players to welcome to our team," Hatchell said. "They are outstanding young people and will represent our program and the University in a first class manner. Individually, Italee Lucas is a tremendous passer and scorer. She has excellent court vision. Re- becca Gray is one of the top shooters in the country. Cetera DeGraffenreid can not only score but she is a great defender. We lose two tremendous seniors in Ivory Latta and Camille Little, so it is important to continue the Carolina tradition. These young ladies will help us do just than."

DeGraffenreid, who attends Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, N.C., is a 5-6 guard. An Associated Press All-State selection, DeGraffenreid was the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the conference tournament MVP. She was the Ashville Citizen-Times 2005-06 All-Western North Carolina Player of the Year and was selected to attend the Nike Basketball Academy in Oregon.

DeGraffenreid averaged 31.6 points per game as a junior, leading Smoky Mountain to the 2A semifinals and a 28-1 record. The daughter of Alphonzo and Pam DeGraffenreid, Cetera scored her 2,000th career point last season as a junior. She also competes in track and field.

Gray, who attends Scott County High School in Georgetown, Ky., is a 5-10 guard. She led her team, which was ranked as high as No. 23 in the USA Today Super 25, to a 27-3 record. Gray was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player at the Louisville Invitational and broke Ivory Latta's record for field goals made at the Beach Ball Classic.

She is the No. 1-ranked player in the senior class from Kentucky and was named to the first team of several all-state teams following her junior year. Gray was a Street and Smith All-America Honorable Mention honoree and a member of the Orlando Sentinel All-South Team. Rebecca is the daugh- ter of Todd and Amy Gray.

Lucas, who attends Centennial High School in Las Vegas, is a 5-8 guard. A three-time Nevada 4A Player of the Year, Lucas was named the Las Vegas Review-Journal Player of the Year in 2006. She has been a USA Today All-America honoree all three years of high school and was a second-team Pa- rade All-America performer in 2006. Lucas won a gold medal with the USA Basketball Under-18 Team that qualified for the Under-19 World Cham- pionships, scoring 10.8 points per game in four wins. Lucas resides with her father LaMar and her stepmother Tammi.
