PREP WORK BEFORE COMING TO CLASS

The Margo Handbag pattern is designed with pockets on the front of the bag. I added pockets to the back also. If you chose to add the extra pockets to the back you will need to cut the fabric as follows:

1) Cut 2 pieces of fabric for the main bag body 15 inches wide by 12 inches high. (In the picture it is the black polka dot fabric.) Cut 2 pieces of the fusible batting/fleece 15 inches wide by 12 inches high. Fuse to the back of each piece of fabric.

2) Cut 2 pieces of fabric 15 inches wide by 12 inches high for the outside pockets. (This is the print in the picture.)

3) Cut 2 pieces of lining fabric for the pockets 15 inches wide by 12 inches high. I used the polka dot fabric but you could also use your inside lining fabric, your choice. I also fused SF101 to these pieces, this is optional but I like the extra body it gives. You could use any light to medium weight interfacing.

4) Cut the bag lining and inside pockets according to the pattern.

The handles for this bag are 27 inches long so you may want to make adjustments. I cut mine 30 inches long.

For the pockets inside the bag, I fused them with SF101, this is optional. The SF 101 pieces are 17 inches long by 5 inches high.

Cut 2 pieces of Peltex for the bottom of the bag, 4 inches by 10 inches. I choose to insert them between the outside of the bag and the lining since I like to put feet on my bags. In the pattern a sleeve is made for the bag bottom insert. You can choose to do either way.

Don’t forget your lunch, drinks, or snacks you would like. Coffee and tea are available in the classroom.

See you in class, can’t wait to see the fabrics you chose for the Margo! Carol
