Most of us like getting something new—skis, a bike, friends, concert tickets, a puppy—you get the idea. In terms of the FDSC year, June is a time of new beginnings. We induct new board members, start a new roster, begin our summer adventures and gather information about new destinations for the next ski season. www.fdsc.org 5 Robert L. (Bob) Smith was inducted into the Pennsylvania Snowsports Hall of Fame on September 14th. Nominees must have received recognition as a significant achiever in snow sports in Pennsylvania. They should be currently or have been actively engaged in the development, promotion, and preservation of skiing or snowboarding across Pennsylvania.

Bob qualified in the categories of Instruction and Organizers/leaders. In the spring of 2005, Bob’s fortieth year of skiing, he attained his PSIA Level III instructor status. He recently received his PSIA 30 year pin. Bob has been an active instructor for the Flying Dutchmen since the Blue Marsh days, and continues to teach in the Tuesday night lesson program. He has served in most Club leadership positions, including President, Competition and Trip director, in addition to leading many trips.

Bob has also served as President of the Eastern Pennsylvania Ski Council for 10 years, and served as Carnival co-chair for 28 years.

On behalf of all of us, congratulations and well-deserved!

Whether you are interested in downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, or November 5th snowboarding, you should find plenty to interest you at this event. This Lake Ontelaunee - Your choice trail or 18 and 21.5 mile road is our own ski show, where we invite ski area representatives to come, rides. Meet at the east side of Schuylkill Valley HS set up a table or display booth, and talk with our members about what is happening at their resort for the upcoming winter season. We will also November 12th have ski club trip display tables, an info table where you can meet some Thun trail - Brentwood Trailhead of our club ski instructors and sign up for our Tuesday evening ski and November 19th snowboard lessons, and merchandise displays from area ski shops. Then you may browse the displays, November 26th chat with ski area and ski shop reps, get a drink at the bar if you wish, Birdsboro - Rita’s to Pottstown meet some new friends in the club, and enjoy the show until about 7:30, when a brief club meeting will be held with Board members reporting on upcoming events. Then the fun begins…we will ask a rep from each ski December — Get out your skis! area or ski shop to come to the microphone and briefly tell us about what is new or special about their area for the coming season, highlighting any special deals for our club members. Then, each rep will draw from our door prize box and we will give out all the prizes generously donated. Those attending can choose length of trail they wish to ride or go at a slower pace if desired.
