The Phos Hilaron

Psalms 118 & 145 All sit.

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; * his mercy endures for ever.

2 Let Israel now proclaim, * "His mercy endures for ever."

3 Let the house of Aaron now proclaim, * "His mercy endures for ever."

4 Let those who fear the LORD now proclaim, * "His mercy endures for ever."

5 I called to the LORD in my distress; * the LORD answered by setting me free.

6 The LORD is at my side, therefore I will not fear; * what can anyone do to me?

7 The LORD is at my side to help me; * I will triumph over those who hate me.

8 It is better to rely on the LORD * than to put any trust in flesh.

9 It is better to rely on the LORD * than to put any trust in rulers.

10 All the ungodly encompass me; * in the Name of the LORD I will repel them.

11 They hem me in, they hem me in on every side; * in the name of the LORD I will repel them.

12 They swarm about me like bees; they blaze like a fire of thorns; * in the name of the LORD I will repel them.

13 I was pressed so hard that I almost fell, * but the LORD came to my help.

14 The LORD is my strength and my song, * and he has become my salvation.

15 There is a sound of exultation and victory * in the tents of the righteous:

16 "The right hand of the LORD has triumphed! * the right hand of the LORD is exalted! the right hand of the LORD has triumphed!"

17 I shall not die, but live, * and declare the works of the LORD.

18 The LORD has punished me sorely, * but he did not hand me over to death.

19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; * I will enter them; I will offer thanks to the LORD.

20 "This is the gate of the LORD; * he who is righteous may enter."

21 I will give thanks to you, for you answered me * and have become my salvation.

22 The same stone which the builders rejected * has become the chief cornerstone.

23 This is the LORD'S doing, * and it is marvelous in our eyes.

24 On this day the LORD has acted; * we will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Hosanna, LORD, hosanna! * LORD, send us now success.

26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; * we bless you from the house of the LORD.

27 God is the LORD; he has shined upon us; * form a procession with branches up to the horns of the altar.

28 "You are my God, and I will thank you; * you are my God, and I will exalt you."

29 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; * his mercy endures for ever.

1 I will exalt you, O God my / King, * and bless your Name for ev- / er and ever.

2 Every day will I / bless you * and praise your Name for ev- / er and ever.

3 Great is the LORD and greatly to be / praised; * there is no end / to his greatness. 4 One generation shall praise your works to an- / other * and shall de- / clare your power.

5 I will ponder the glorious splendor of your / majesty * and all your / marvelous works.

6 They shall speak of the might of your wondrous / acts, * and I will tell / of your greatness.

7 They shall publish the remembrance of your great / goodness; * they shall sing / of your righteous deeds.

8 The LORD is gracious and full of com- / passion, * slow to anger and / of great kindness.

9 The LORD is loving to / everyone * and his compassion is / over all his works.

10 All your works praise you, O / LORD, * and your faithful / servants bless you.

11 They make known the glory of your / kingdom * and / speak of your power;

12 That the peoples may know of your / power * and the glorious splendor / of your kingdom.

13 Your kingdom is an everlasting / kingdom; * your dominion endures through- / out all ages.

14 The LORD is faithful in all his / words * and merci- / ful in all his deeds.

15 The LORD upholds all those who / fall; * he lifts up / those who are bowed down.

16 The eyes of all wait upon you, O / LORD, * and you give them their food / in due season. 17 You open wide your / hand * and satisfy the needs of every / living creature.

18 The LORD is righteous in / all his ways * and lov-/ ing in all his works.

19 The LORD is near to those who call up- / on him, * to all who call up- / on him faithfully.

20 He fulfills the desire of those who / fear him; * he hears their / cry and helps them.

21 The LORD preserves all those who / love him, * but he destroys / all the wicked.

22 My mouth shall speak the praise of the / LORD; * let all flesh bless his holy Name for ev- / er and ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the / Son, * and / to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever / shall be, * world with- / out end. Amen.

The First Reading Isaiah 19:19-25 On that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the center of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. It will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; when they cry to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a savior, and will defend and deliver them. The Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians; and the Egyptians will know the Lord on that day, and will worship with sacrifice and burnt-offering, and they will make vows to the Lord and perform them. The Lord will strike Egypt, striking and healing; they will return to the Lord, and he will listen to their supplications and heal them. On that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. On that day Israel will be the third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, whom the Lord of hosts has blessed, saying, ‘Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my heritage.’ Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

All stand for The Magnificat Tonus Peregrinus

All sit for The Second Reading Luke 19:11-27 As they were listening to this, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. So he said, ‘A nobleman went to a distant country to get royal power for himself and then return. He summoned ten of his slaves, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, “Do business with these until I come back.” But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, “We do not want this man to rule over us.” When he returned, having received royal power, he ordered these slaves, to whom he had given the money, to be summoned so that he might find out what they had gained by trading. The first came forward and said, “Lord, your pound has made ten more pounds.” He said to him, “Well done, good slave! Because you have been trustworthy in a very small thing, take charge of ten cities.” Then the second came, saying, “Lord, your pound has made five pounds.” He said to him, “And you, rule over five cities.” Then the other came, saying, “Lord, here is your pound. I wrapped it up in a piece of cloth, for I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.” He said to him, “I will judge you by your own words, you wicked slave! You knew, did you, that I was a harsh man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow? Why then did you not put my money into the bank? Then when I returned, I could have collected it with interest.” He said to the bystanders, “Take the pound from him and give it to the one who has ten pounds.” (And they said to him, “Lord, he has ten pounds!”) “I tell you, to all those who have, more will be given; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.” ’ Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

The Apostles’ Creed Sung by all, standing. I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the ✠ resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

That thy holy angels may lead us in paths of peace and goodwill, We entreat thee, O Lord. That we may be pardoned and forgiven for our sins and offenses, We entreat thee, O Lord. That there may be peace to thy Church and to the whole world, We entreat thee, O Lord. That we may depart this life in thy faith and fear, and not be condemned before the great judgment seat of Christ, We entreat thee, O Lord. That we may be bound together by thy Holy Spirit in the communion of [_____ and] all thy saints, entrusting one another and all our life to Christ, We entreat thee, O Lord.

The Sacrament is placed on the altar, and all join in singing:

O Salutaris hostias Mode II

A period of silent prayer and adoration follows, concluding: Officiant May the ✠ Divine Assistance remain with us always. People Amen.

All remain kneeling and sing: Tantum ergo Mode III

The officiant sings the following collect:

Officiant Let us pray. O Lord Jesus Christ, who in a wonderful Sacrament hast left unto us a memorial of thy Passion: Grant us, we beseech thee, so to venerate the sacred mysteries of thy Body and Blood, that we may ever perceive within ourselves the fruit of thy redemption; who with the Father and the Holy Ghost livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.

The officiant then goes to the altar and, taking up the Sacrament, makes the sign of the cross over the people as a blessing.

Then after a period of silence, the following act of praise is said. The Divine Praises The people repeat each of the praises after the officiant. Blessed be God. Blessed be the holy and undivided Trinity. Blessed be God the Father, maker of heaven and earth. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be Jesus Christ in his death and resurrection. Blessed be Jesus Christ on his throne of glory. Blessed be Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of his body and blood. Blessed be God the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life. Blessed be God in the Virgin Mary, mother of God. Blessed be God in Joseph, guardian of the Incarnate Word. Blessed be God in all the angels and saints. Blessed be God.

The Sacrament is returned to the tabernacle, and, as the bells ring, all stand. Psalm 117 The antiphon is sung first by the cantor, and then repeated by all. The cantor chants the psalm, and the antiphon is repeated by all as indicated.
