Dear

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - DISCLOSURE

The council has completed its search relating to your request for information regarding secondary schools in Cumbria received on 25 February 2019. I am sorry for the delay in sending you this response.

The council does hold information within the definition of your request.

Request

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act to request the following information on each secondary school in Cumbria: - School Name - Local Authority Establishment Number (LAESTAB) - Unique Reference Number (URN) - The number of children admitted under a distance criterion - The distance of the furthest child admitted under a distance criterion

I would like this information for the school years 2006/07 through to 2012/13.

Response

Please see attached.

The information provided refers only to those schools who were oversubscribed at the September Main Intake in the relevant years, as this is the only point where the distance criteria is used – if a school is undersubscribed then places are offered to all applicants. This information also refers only to those schools for which the Local Authority is the admissions authority, as it is the LA that applies the distance criteria for these schools and so has access to this information. Schools that are their own admissions authority – such as academies, free schools, foundation and voluntary aided schools – are responsible for ranking their applications in order of priority, according to their admissions policy, and the LA offers places, up to the Published Admissions Number, or agreed admissions number, based on these rankings. The LA would therefore not know whether or not the cut-off point was based on a distance criteria or what the distances were. However, the names and numbers of those own authority schools that were oversubscribed in the relevant years have been included below.

The number provided with the school’s information is the DfE number.
