Media Advisory: Lawmakers to hear testimony on economic benefits of military training bases in 173rd, 142nd Fighter officials to testify alongside Rep. Werner Reschke

Salem, Ore. - On Wednesday, June 7, the House Economic Development and Trade Committee will host Jeff Smith, Commander of the Oregon ’s 173rd Fighter Wing stationed at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls, as well as Lieutenant Colonel Chris Lantagne of the Oregon Air National Guard’s located in Portland. The committee will hear testimony from Colonel Smith and Lt. Colonel Lantagne as part of a discussion focused on the economic benefits of military training bases in Oregon.

“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to hear from members of our air national guard about the economic benefits Oregon receives as a result of military operations in our state,” said Rep. Reschke, whose district includes Kingsley Field. “I am hopeful that this hearing will provide lawmakers with insight into the status of the current mission being carried out by our fighter wings and how our state government can continue to partner with the Air Force moving forward.”

The 142nd Fighter Wing, based in Portland, conducts air defense operations from northern California up to the Canadian border. The 173rd Fighter Wing, based at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls, trains the America’s F-15 air-to-air combat pilots.
