Academic Administrative Experience

Chair, Architecture Department. (2013-2016) Managed department with 600 students, 40 full-time and part-time faculty, and 10 staff.

Coordinated and developed academic programs. • Led the implementation of the Master of Architecture unified curriculum to realign three academic tracks and provide flexibility for students interested in specialization and academic certificates; Received two department- grants from the Center of Teaching Excellence to redesign the sequence of technical support courses; Worked closely with faculty to flip large lecture courses. • Coordinated curricular changes to the Bachelor of Architectural Studies as an interdisciplinary degree and a path to four graduate degrees: Master of Architecture, Master of Urban Planning, Master of Construction Management, and Master of Arts in Design.

Recruited and mentored junior faculty. • Actively recruited junior faculty specialized in Health and Well-being, Building Technology and Ecology, and Building Information Modeling to strengthen departmental areas of expertise. • Established mentorship meetings between recently tenured faculty and tenured-track faculty to help the junior faculty prioritize and strategize their efforts to prepare for tenure review. • Supported faculty initiatives to develop a network of scholars and host conferences on Design Futures and in 2014, and the Scholarship of Public Engagement in 2016.

Collaborated with other academic units. • Worked with faculty to established the Entrepreneurship Studio and work with the School of Business Kansas Impact Program. Architecture students worked in teams with students in the MBA program to provide business solutions and design services to non-profit organizations in the State of Kansas. • Reconnected with the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering and assisted in curricular revisions of the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering; co-developed a dual Master program in Architecture & Construction Management. • Worked with Design Department Chair to improve access to Design electives and Design Study Abroad Programs for architecture students; Contributed to Design Camp recruiting effort, by offering storytelling and animation workshops.

Strengthened partnerships with professional communities. • Expanded the internship program through global partnerships with international architecture firms in Paris, Seoul, and Singapore; Established new research fellowships and co-ops opportunities in Kansas City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, and Houston.

• Organized symposia and other events to help connect research faculty with the network of alumni to promote applied research, including the symposium on Big Data and Building Information Modeling, to help develop a knowledge community of local professionals in Architecture, Engineering and Construction.

Fostered alumni relations to advance academic programs. • Organized event to celebrate the life of Professor Lesnikowski; and helped establish the Lesnikowski Global Scholarship Fund as an endowed scholarship to support students studying abroad. • Helped secure gift to establish the Bob Coffeen Acoustic Lectureship to continue this unique program in architectural acoustics and secure the future acoustic faculty hire. • Secured gifts to create a new Robotics Lab and a new Virtual Reality lab; and spearheaded the development of a new set of courses to enhance the skill set of our students.

Worked to broaden participation and inclusion. • Organized the “Robo Expo” to expand opportunities for underrepresented groups in architecture, design and technology. This event included a series of workshops for high school students in computation and robotic fabrication led by KU students in the Multicultural Scholars Program and Women in Technical Studies student organization. • Created the Water , a , to bring attention to sustainability and social justice problems, share diverse perspectives, and promote mentorship among students across disciplines. • Supported a student-led mentorship program where juniors and seniors mentor freshmen and sophomores, to encourage academic success, and promote student leadership.
