  • TBT: TV's Live Musicals
#TBT: TV's Live Musicals 12.03.2015 On Thursday, Dec. 3, NBC will air its latest live musical event, The Wiz Live. The musical has been months in the making, and much like its predecessors, Peter Pan and Sound of Music, this musical will be entirely live. It's the latest in NBC's programming strategy to try as many live television events as possible, which includes this season's live Undateable season and Neil Patrick Harris' live variety show, Best Time Ever. But this year is a bit different in one way: The NBC live musical now has competition. Fox is joining in on the fun this January with a star-studded musical of its own, Grease Live. So as the live TV list continues to grow, see what you may have missed and what you have to catch this season: The Wiz Live: The musical set to air on Dec. 3 is The Wiz Live, starring Queen Latifah as The Wiz, newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy, and everyone from Common to MAry J. Blige in between. Peter Pan Live: Last year's NBC live musical starred Girls' Allison Williams as the titular Pan and Christopher Walken as Hook. Sound of Music Live: Carrie Underwood's Sound of Music Live with True Blood's Stephen Moyer was the first of NBC's live experiment, which resulted in big ratings for the network. Grease Live: Fox will join the live musical party this January with Grease, starring Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit and Vanessa Hudgens. And last, but certainly not least, one cannot leave out the biggest musical powerhouse of all, hitting NBC on Monday, Dec.
