Isle of Wight Council Housing Department

Supporting People Supporting People is a programme that funds housing related support services. To get help from Supporting People, a person would need to speak to someone like their care manager or health worker. This person would then decide if Supporting People help is needed, and if it is will complete a referral form. The Supporting People team at the Council are responsible for the commissioning and monitoring of housing related support services on the Isle of Wight. Providers of support services vary, some are housing associations, registered charities and advice agencies. Providers are paid to provide housing related support to people on behalf of the Council.

Spectrum Housing Group - The Foyer Accommodation and support for homeless young people on the Isle of Wight. The FOYER has 45 rooms for young people from 16 - 25 years old. We also offer a range of services that help support the transition to personal and economic independence. In many cases the Foyer delivers services which extend beyond Foyer residents into the local community. What we offer: • Accommodation for up to two years • Career guidance and job search help • Training • Practical support and advice • Support to move on to independent living • Help with basic skills

Southern Housing Group (CASI) The Care and Supporting Independence team (CASI), are based on the Isle of Wight. We own and manage over 3,000 properties and are a leading provider of care and support services. We have been providing support on the island since 1990 and we are committed to continually improving our services, by making sure that our customers and residents are at the heart of everything we do.

The Care and Supporting Independence team own, manage and deliver care and support services, and specialist accommodation right across the island.

Shelter – The Housing and Homelessness Charity Shelter is a charity that works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing. We do this by giving advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need, and by campaigning for lasting political change to end the housing crisis for good. Shelter provides free, confidential advice to people with all kinds of housing problems through our online housing information and our face to face local services.

Targeted Youth Support (TYS) The central aim of TYS is to help vulnerable young people early, to address their difficulties as soon as possible, and to prevent their problems escalating. It is targeted at young people who without help are at future risk of further problems such as substance misuse, youth offending, teenage pregnancy and homelessness.

In particular, this is likely to include young people who experience a combination of the factors below: • Persistent absence or exclusion from school • Behavioural problems • Poor emotional, social or coping skills • Poor mental health • Learning difficulties and disabilities • Low self-belief • Poor aspirations • Attitudes which condone risky behaviours • Poor family support, family conflict or problems such as parental substance misuse • Poor support networks • Family or friends, or involvement in gangs, who condone high risk activities • Living in a deprived neighbourhood • Poverty

The service will now provide 3 key early help interventions:

1. 1-2-1 support, a time limited bespoke To refer to the 1 -2-1 TYS professionals need intervention which will be tailored to the to complete a CAF assessment form and individuals needs and outcomes required. action plan or CIN plan ensuring you

identify the needs of the young people, what support is required from TYS and the expected outcome 2. Housing Support -support to young people Complete initial screening check tool with at risk of homelessness, aiming to prevent the Young Person/Family (available from family breakdown and provide the TYS team). If there is an immediate information, guidance and support Homelessness issue or Safeguarding regarding options for young people concern a referral should be made to Hants Direct. In other cases contact TYS for advice and support.

3. Return Interviews for children and young Referrals for this service w ill be through people who have been missing (non-social police and social care only. care cases). The team will provide an interview for young people and will work with other early help services to address issues/concerns. At the end of the intervention TYS staff will provide a summary of case including the impact of interventions to the referring agency and young person.

FIZ (Family Information Zone) FIZ is the Isle of Wight’s family information service which provides impartial information and signposting services to families, children and young people under the age of 20 year (or up to 25 years for young people who have learning difficulties or disabilities).

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) – Isle of Wight Isle of Wight Bureau provides a volunteer-led generalist advice service in Newport for drop-in clients, face-to-face appointments and telephone advice.

We also provide: • outreach and self help information kiosk in Ryde Library • Money advice sessions across the Island provided by specialist IMA trained advisers. • energy advice - we may be able to help reduce your fuel costs by looking at options such as switching suppliers or making your home more energy efficient • welfare benefits advice service for people affected by disability and cancer • Healthwatch Isle of Wight – providing information, signposting and referral on health & social care matters

The Footprint Trust Delivering practical help, training and guidance on saving energy and fighting fuel poverty.

Isle of Wight Foodbank The Foodbank gives three days of emergency food to individuals and families in crisis. Local care professionals refer people to us using a food voucher. At the foodbank centre clients exchange their voucher for food supplies; here they also receive a cup of coffe, a listening ear and signposting to other professionals who can help them out of their crisis. The Foodbank allows the general public to contribute to and support local well-being in a simple, practical way.
