2014-15 LSU MEN’S BASKETBALL Second Half Shooting CAREER It’s been interesting but in all five LSU wins, the Tigers had definitely a better shooting eye in the second half than the first half (although the percentage as seen above wasn’t that great in the UMass DOUBLE-DOUBLES win. In fact in two of LSU’s victories – against Weber State in the Paradise Jam and McNeese State -- LSU posted field goal percentages of 60-plus percent in the second half. The Tigers will have five non-conference games in that second “section” of the season before vs. McNeese 11-29-14 26 10 beginning the 18-game Southeastern Conference schedule on Jan. 8 at Missouri. ----- Tigers Looking To Find Shooting touch From The Arc Again Interestingly, in the two halves that LSU shot over 60 percent, the Tigers did not make a habit of TEAM RUNS shooting threes, finding a way to get inside and to the paint. In the Weber State game, LSU shot just two treys. In the McNeese game, LSU shot just three treys. 8-0 4 (TT, WSU, McN, UMass) The Tigers have had a couple of struggles at the line in the Texas Tech game, making just 2-of-19 9-0 and then 1-of-13 in the Clemson loss. Assists to Baskets The Tigers had a strong assist-to-turnover ratio in the McNeese game (11/29) Saturday with 20 assists for 33 made buckets or 60.1 percent. Josh Gray has seven assists and Tim Quarterman had six assists in the game. Five players who had assists had a positive assist-to-turnover ratio in the game. For the season, LSU has had 108 assists for 205 made baskets of 52.7 percent. The Tigers have a positive assist-to-turnover ratio of 108-105. Gray is continuing a tradition that dates back to at least the year 2000 where the lead point guard has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. Through seven games, the junior college transfer has 32 assists and 24 turnovers. Tim Quarterman has a ratio of 22-to-14.

Points In the Paint Helped LSU Wins Points in the paint helped tremendously with LSU’s two 60-percent shooting halves with LSU getting 52 total points in the paint against Weber State and 48 against McNeese State. In the halves in which LSU shot 60 percent, the Tigers had 34 points in the paint against Weber and 32 in the paint against McNeese State (11/29). The latter 32 came without Jordan Mickey on the court as well as he DNP in that game. Against UMass (12/2), LSU posted 30 points in the paint in the first half en route to another 52-point game in the paint.

He had two rebounds and two assists with no turnovers. Tim Quarterman Gets Solid Minutes For the sophomore guard, the improvement in quality and aggressiveness of play has been a big plus for the LSU team in the first seven games. Last year in 33 games, Tim Quarterman averaged 12.3 minutes per game, shot just 26.4 percent FG percentage (28-106), was 10-48 from the arc (20.8), 17-31 from the line (54.8 percent) and averaged 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. This year in just seven games (six off the bench and a start against McNeese-11/29), Quarterman has averaged 31.0 minutes, has made 26-of-56 field goal attempts (46.4 percent), with seven treys (7-22, 31.8%).
