Brigadier Tommaso Vitale

Brigadier General Tommaso Vitale was born in ISCHIA on July 28th, 1963.

His educational curriculum was successfully completed in 1981, obtaining top marks as to Classical High School Diploma.

He joined the Italian Army Military Academy 163th course in Modena, completing his junior military studies as Artillery 2nd Lieutenant at the Application School in Turin.

In the ranks of Lieutenant and junior Captain he served in the 120th “PO” and 28th “LIVORNO” Field Artillery Battalions, where he was appointed Battery Commander and Fires TOC Director respectively.

In 1993-94 he attended the 120th Junior Staff College Course in Civitavecchia (Rome). He was then assigned to the Italian Army General Staff HQs as a Staff Officer (SO) within the IV Logistic Department - Tactical Mobility Bureau. Promoted to the rank of , he attended the 120th Senior Army Staff College and 4th Joint Services Staff College Courses. In 1998-2000, he then served as Training Branch Staff Officer within the 1st Army Defence Forces Headquarters in Vittorio Veneto.

After completion of the NATO Defence College Course, as Lieutenant he commanded the 132nd Heavy Artillery Regiment/1st Battalion, joining the KFOR Mission twice as “Task Force” Commander.

In 2001-2006 we was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff (COS) of “Pozzuolo del Friuli” Cavalry Bde HQs, then he spent 4 months as Communication Zone West HQs COS (Albania) and in 2004 he served the Italian Contingent HQs involved in Operation “Antica Babilonia IV” (Iraq) again as Chief of Staff.

In the period April 2006 – September 2007 he was the 74th Commander of the Italian Army Horse Artillery Regiment in Milan. From 1st October 2007 until 10th September 2010, he served in Brussels (Belgium) within the framework of the Atlantic Council’s Italian Permanent Representative as the ITA Army member of Military Political Affairs Committees. In this period he was actively engaged in all NATO Operations’ monitoring activities, contributing as well to the thorough definition of the NATO – RUSSIA Council, the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council and the NATO – UKRAINE Commission’s relevant working agendas.

In the period September 2010 – September 2012, he was the “Mantova” Division’s Chief of Staff (COS) in Vittorio Veneto (TV). From 7th September 2012 until 13th April 2014 he was appointed Commander of the Venice Military District. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Defence Forces Inter-regional Command (North) HQs in Padova as Chief of Staff from 14th April 2014 until 23rd September 2018.

Since July 19th, 2018 he serves as the Operational Forces Command (North) Deputy Commander for Territorial Affairs in Padova.

Brigadier General VITALE holds Bachelor Degrees in Strategic Affairs and Political Science, including a 2nd Level Master in Strategic Affairs as well. He speaks English and Spanish languages, holding very knowledgeable skills in French too. He is also a CBRN Subject Matter Expert.

In 2007 he issued the book “Horse Batteries” (Artistica Publisher).
