Chris Porter President, Dr. Ronald L. Carter named Steven Aycock as the 20th head football coach in Golden Bull history.

Steven Aycock embarks on his fifth season as the Golden Bulls’ head football coach. He led JCSU to its first postseason victory since 1969 with a win in the 2011 Pioneer Bowl. Aycock coached the Golden Bulls to a 6-5 record in 2011, followed by a 6-4 finish in 2012; the team’s first time with consecutive winning seasons since 1972-73.

Aycock has over 18 years of coaching experience as an assistant and offensive lineman coach. He has brought enthusiasm, passion, tenacity, and a thorough understanding of football from various aspects. “I am determined to make Johnson C. Smith football a powerhouse in the CIAA and in Division II football,” says Aycock. “I will utilize my opportunity to showcase my knowledge of the game through my coaching experiences and develop our student-athletes into better players and people.”

As a part of the previous football coaching staff in 1996, Aycock helped the Golden Bulls orchestrate an impressive 7-3 record, the first time in 15 years that the program recorded a winning season. Aycock not only brings a new energy to Golden Bull football, but he symbolizes a new era at JCSU. He is determined to guide the program in the direction of conference championship contenders and an elite in Division II . versus Livingstone Saturday, September 7, 2013 | 4:00 pm ET ALPHABETICAL ROSTER olden ulls ootball oster NO NAME G CL BPOS HT FWT Hometown R Major 11 Andrew Alexander Jr. QB 1 Keahn Wallace Jr. QB 6-2 210 Miami, FL Sports Management 31 Anthony Allen Jr. LB 2 Fred Scott So. Charlotte, NC – The 2013 ten-game Johnson C. Smith University football schedule, along with any postseason play will be broadcast this season through WGNC 1450 AM radio. Dave Friedman, a Syracuse University graduate, will serve as the play-by-play announcer and Joshua Diggs, a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, will provide the color commentary.

WGNC (1450 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a News, Talk, and Sports format. The station is licensed to Gastonia, NC and serves the Gastonia area. The station is an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves radio network, the largest radio affiliate network in Major League Baseball and is also an affiliate of the Washington Redskins radio network.

Dave Friedman will be returning for his fourth season as the live and dynamic voice of Golden Bulls football on the radio. Friedman has an extensive background in broadcast and radio that stems back to his collegiate days. He earned his degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science from Syracuse University. Friedman announced the Orange’s 2003 National Basketball Championship game victory over Kansas on the college radio station. He has also provided the play-by-play for the Winthrop Eagles’ men’s basketball program for the past five seasons.

Friedman made his way to Charlotte as the number two baseball announcer for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. He has also worked as the announcer for the women’s basketball games for Radford University and the University of Vermont.

Joshua Diggs will be returning to the broadcast for his third year as the color commentator. Diggs completed his Mass Communications degree from UNC-Charlotte. He has served as the color commentator for 49ers’ women’s basketball and baseball during his undergraduate studies. Diggs has also worked with UNCC on their Goldwire Sports Show.

Both gentlemen will provide input for a pre-game show before each contest. The broadcast will also include live interviews at halftime and post-game with head football coach Steven Aycock.

The first game of the 10-game season is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th from Charlotte Memorial Stadium as JCSU challenges Livingstone College in the 5th Annual Commemorative Classic. The final game of the regular season is slated for Saturday, November 9th from Wilburforce, OH against Central State University.

The broadcast will be available live on 1450 AM and online at www.goldenbullsports.com, the official athletic website for Johnson C. Smith University or at www.wgnc.net. A link will be available on the JCSU football page. versus Livingstone Saturday, September 7, 2013 | 4:00 pm ET
