Cook Forest State Park is a 8,500-acre Pennsylvania state park in Farmington Township, Clarion County, Barnett Township, Forest County and Barnett Township and Jefferson County. The park is a heavily wooded area of rolling hills and mountains along the Clarion River in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Cook Forest is now a National Natural Landmark and was rated one of America’s Top 50 State Parks by National Geographic Traveler magazine. It was chosen by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and its Bureau of Parks as one of “25 Must-See Pennsylvania State Parks”.

Cook Forest features 27 marked trails totaling some 29 miles for hiking. The terrain is of rolling hills and cool valley streams. Special scenic areas are the old growth forest, Fire Tower/Seneca Point and the Clarion River. Among Cook Forest’s primary attractions is the “Forest Cathedral” area of old growth white pine and hemlock, some trees top 180 feet. A somewhat more minor attraction is the short rock “grotto” found in the midst of the mountain-laurel thickets along Seneca trail roughly halfway between the Fire Tower/Seneca Point area and the end of Deer Park Trail. Part of the (140 miles) and the North Country National Scenic Trail pass through Cook Forest. The Baker Trail runs from Freeport, in southern Armstrong County, to the Allegheny National Forest. The is under development and will connect the Missouri River in North Dakota with the Adirondack Mountains in New York.

The 8,500-acre Cook Forest State Park and 3,136 acre Clarion River Lands lie in scenic northwestern Pennsylvania. Known for its stands of old growth forest, the park’s Forest Cathedral of towering white pines and hemlocks is a National Natural Landmark. A scenic 13-mile stretch of the Clarion River flows through Cook Forest State Park and is popular for canoeing, kayaking, and tubing.

• HIKING: There are over 47 miles of hiking trails and 4.3 miles of multi-use trails within Cook Forest State Park. An additional 24 miles of multi-use trails and 8 miles of hiking trails are located within the Clarion River Lands. • BIKING: Bikes are permitted on all one-way, dirt roads within the park. A 13-mile bicycle route follows lightly traveled roads within the park and a portion of Hefren Run Trail. • HORSEBACK RIDING: A loop trail begins at a small parking lot on Forest Drive, connects to Old Logging Road, and winds through beautiful pine plantations. Twenty-four miles of additional trails are located downstream of Lick Bridge in the Clarion River Lands. • PICNICKING: Picnic tables and charcoal grills are available throughout the park. • FISHING: The Clarion River provides fishing for , warmwater game fish, and panfish. About 2.5 miles of Toms Run is stocked with trout. A special fishing pond stocked with trout is located by the park office and is available for use by children ages 12 and younger and people with disabilities. • BOATING: The Class 1 Clarion River provides excellent canoeing and kayaking, especially during the and fall. • HUNTING AND FIREARMS: Over 12,000 acres of Cook Forest State Park and Clarion River Lands are open to hunting, trapping, and the training of dogs during established seasons. Common game species are deer, squirrel, bear, and turkey. Over 10,000 acres of adjacent state forests and over 500,000 acres of Allegheny National Forest are also open to hunting. • SCENIC VIEWS: Two scenic views are accessible from Fire Tower Road, about 1.5 miles from Route 36. From the rock ledges of Seneca Point Overlook you can see the Clarion River Valley. In addition, an 80-foot climb up Historic Fire Tower #9 gives a breathtaking view of the entire area.
