CASE STUDY INCLUDES: Filmmaker Narrative Action Items for Filmmakers & Organizations Resource Map: Analysis of Project Support About the Film: Synopsis & Relevant Statistics FILMMAKER CASE STUDY Last Day of Freedom LLC Living Condition photo: View Film Trailer View Official Website Narrative Overview In this case study, San Francisco-based artists Dee Hibbert-Jones and Nomi Talisman share how they completed their first documentary by tapping into a variety of financial and non-financial resources through their existing networks of issue- oriented nonprofit organizations, advocacy and legal groups, and academic institutions. While Hibbert-Jones and Talisman did not pay themselves directly for their work on the project, they were able to cover basic living expenses and avoid accumulating any significant debts by following an innovative grant application strategy and leveraging their employment situations to secure additional project funding and incorporate elements of the film’s development and production into their paid work time. Document is a main source of information for lawyers. And in cinema, basic film forms are defined with their own properties. The common sense is to seperate documentary from fiction, experimental from main current and animation from the live action films. While these definitions were being made, it has been considered that which expression methods were used. The film genre which is called documentary has been defined in many different ways. In this study, animated documentary genre which is a form of hybrid documentary has been concerned with Baudrillard’s theory. In this context, Ari Folman’s animated documentary Waltz with Bassir (2008) has been analyzed with genre criticism method. Please contact author, [email protected], for permission.> Abstract: Machinima is the making of animated movies in real time through the use of computer game technology. The projects that launched machinima embedded gameplay in practices of performance, spectatorship, subversion, modification, and community. This article is concerned primarily with the earliest machinima projects. In this phase, DOOM and especially Quake movie makers created practices of game performance and high-performance technology that yielded a new medium for linear storytelling and artistic expression. My aim is not to answer the question, “are games art?”, but to suggest that game-based performance practices will influence work in artistic and narrative media. Biography: Henry Lowood is Curator for History of Science & Technology Collections at Stanford University and co-Principal Investigator for the How They Got Game Project in the Stanford Humanities Laboratory. A historian of science and technology, he teaches Stanford’s annual course on the history of computer game design. With the collaboration of the Internet Archive and the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences, he is currently working on a project to develop The Machinima Archive, a permanent repository to document the history of Machinima moviemaking. A body of research on the social and cultural impacts of interactive entertainment is gradually replacing the dismissal of computer games and videogames as mindless amusement for young boys. There are many good reasons for taking computer games1 seriously.
