Wayzata High School offers a variety of extra and co-curricular activities designed to meet the interests of the students. The extra and co-curricular student activity program is an opportunity and a privilege afforded students in the Wayzata School District. A function of the extra and co-curricular program is to promote lifelong personal growth and development. Student partici pation in the extra and co-curricular program can encourage individual development by providing opportunities for leader ship, sportsmanship, fellowship, teamwork, commitment to goal achievement, character building, communication skills, competition and school pride.

Through their involvement in the program students are expected to improve their decision making processes, develop self discipline and self esteem, respect individual differences, and promote a healthy attitude toward addressing challenges. Opportunities for activities include a wide variety of alternatives offered on an ongoing basis and additional activities which become available throughout the school year. Many groups are open to all interested students; others have tryouts or special requirements. Information about the activities is included on NewsBreak.

The Wayzata Trojans compete in the Lake Conference. The athletic teams, debate, speech, one act-play, visual arts and music are registered with the State High School League. Students are encouraged to become active in a vari ety of activities while attending Wayzata High School.

Wayzata High School Eligibility Information

In addition to the Minnesota State High School League rules, the Wayzata School District regulations are:

1. Law enforcement agency citations of substance violations under the Minnesota State Statue 121A.28 will be investigated and enforced as violations under the MSHSL Bylaw 205.00. 2. Wayzata School District 284 has extended the MSHSL Bylaw 209.00 “Sexual Harassment/Violence” to be in effect and enforced during the entire calendar year. This extends the rule to include June, July, and August, as well as the school year. 3. For a second violation, the student is ineligible for one calendar year for elected or appointed interscholastic and enrichment positions and all school-sponsored athletic and activity awards and honors(i.e. lettering, captain, MVP, etc.). Awards, honors, and scholarships not awarded, determined, nor controlled by School District 284 policies are ex empt.

3 2020-2021 Wayzata High School Athletic Registration Information

All participants in athletic programs at Wayzata High School must be fully registered prior to the athlete’s first practice/tryout. Athletic Registration hours will be Monday - Wednesday 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Note: Student-Athletes may participate in only one athletic program per season. This also includes Showstoppers (Fall) and Clay Target (Spring).

A student-athlete who has transferred to WHS during their high school career, is moving into the school district, or is a foreign exchange student should stop in the Activities Office to pick up extra paperwork. You must complete the following steps to be cleared for participation:

Step 1: Submit a current Sports Qualifying Physical Examination dated after 6/15/2017*. Form must be signed and dated by a physician. Well-child physicals ​ ​ ​ will not be accepted. Form must clear student for Athletic participation. Sports Qualifying Physical Exam can be faxed to 763-745-6625 or emailed to Jeanie.Faue@ wayzataschools.org * Please note that the cutoff date for 2020-2021 is the same as 2019-2020.

Step 2: Submit the 2020-2021 Minnesota State High School League/Wayzata High School Athletic and Activities Eligibility Form. This form must be turned in ​ ​ ​ each school year. Submit form at www.wayzataschoolspayonline.com.

Step 3: Fee Payment. Submit payment at www.wayzataschoolspayonline.com. If you are paying in person, you must pay with check or cash. If all 3 steps ​ ​

are not completed, your student will not be allowed to participate, tryout, and/or receive any equipment. Please complete steps in order.

Name of Activity: Student Council ​ Advisor: Amy Swenson, [email protected]; Lauren Wilvers, [email protected] Description ​ ​ of activity: The student council acts as a liaison between the student body, the administration, and the school board. The ​ student council is involved in the Hennepin Division of Student Councils and the Minnesota Association of Student Councils. The student council is the representative body for students and works to improve school culture, works with admin istration to address student concerns, and plans events such as Homecoming, P.E.A.C.E., Survivor and Prom. In addition, the council sponsors events to raise money for IOCP and Fund-A-Need. Dates: School year. ​ Eligibility requirements: There are two ways a student may become a member of the student council. To be an elected voting ​ member, candidates must participate in the spring election and be voted in by members of their class. To be a non-voting, work-on member, interested students must pick up an application at the start of the school year and complete 15 hours of student council activities by the end of the first term. Transfer students who were active in the student council in their previ ous school become members upon the recommendation of their former advisor. All student council members must adhere to legal statutes, school policies, and the WHS Student Council Constitution.
