Berbary was named the third head coach in Indiana University Women’s Soccer history on Feb. 6, 2013, after serving as an assistant coach at Auburn for the previous five seasons and was the Associate Head Coach for the Tigers in 2012.

In addition to being named associate head coach following the 2011 season, Berbary was also the recruiting coordinator at Auburn and responsible for the offensive attack on the field and helped the Tigers to five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. She was recently named the 2012 South Atlantic Regional Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

During her tenure at Auburn, Berbary helped guide the Tigers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and 2012 while earning the program’s first-ever seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2011. That came on the heels of winning the 2011 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament and the Tigers made another appearance in the conference tournament title game in 2012. The Tigers claimed the SEC West Division crown in 2008 and 2011 as well. Auburn has also placed at least one player on the First Team All-SEC in each of the five years that Berbary has been there.

The 2011 season was a historic one for the Auburn offense under the leadership of Berbary, as the Tigers tallied 50 goals and 61 assists, both ranking as the second-most in a single season in school history. In her five years, Auburn has averaged 39 goals scored per season. She coached Katy Frierson to First Team All-SEC honors, NSCAA All-Amerian accolades and she was a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy.

Berbary came to Auburn after four years as an assistant coach at the University of Dayton, where the Flyers had a .691 winning percentage during her time. She coached a pair of Atlantic-10 Offensive Players of the Year and seven first team all-conference selections. As the recruiting coordinator at Dayton, all of her recruiting classes were regionally and nationally ranked and four times the Flyers had players land on the All-Rookie Team for A-10.

Before Dayton, Berbary was the head coach at Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Ga., where she led the team to back-to-back regional championships and a 19-0-0 regional record. She was named the Region 7AAA Coach of the Year twice and the 2004 Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year by the Gainesville Times.

She also served as a staff coach with the U.S. Olympic Development Program from 2005-11. She was an assistant coach for Ohio South `91, `90 and `88 girls (2005-07), the head coach for Ohio South `93 Girls in 2008, a Region II Staff Coach (2008-09) and a Region III Staff Coach (2009-11)

While earning her degree in Health Promotion and Wellness Education from the University of Georgia in 2002, Berbary was a standout on the field for the Bulldogs. She closed her career in third place on the career goals scored list as well as the career points list. She led the team in scoring three straight years and propelled UGA to the Sweet 16 in 1998 and the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2001.

sergio gonzalez Assistant Coach 1ST YEAR AT INDIANA • 6 YEARS AS DIVISION I COACH

Gonzalez comes to Bloomington after spending the previous two seasons as the head coach at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The Highlanders, who have competed at the NCAA Division I level since 2007, had 20 players named to Great West Conference All-Academic team and the team received the NSCAA Team Academic Award. Also, three players were named all- conference by College Sports Madness and they set a school record for most shutouts in a season and highest RPI as well.

Prior to his time at NJIT, Gonzalez spent five seasons at the University ofD ayton and helped the Flyers to Atlantic 10 Conference titles in his final two seasons. The team also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2009 and 2010 and posted an overall record of 71-21- 15 during his tenure. He coached or recruited three Atlantic 10 Defensive Players of the Year, two A-10 Offensive Players of the year, one A-10 Rookie of the Year and one A-10 Midfielder of the Year. In 2009, he helped Mandi Bäck garner UD’s first-ever NSCAA First Team All-American honors and in 2010 saw Colleen Williams receive NSCAA Second-Team All-American accolades.

He was also an assistant coach at Slippery Rock University from 2000-2006 and won a pair of conference titles there. The team also advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2001 and featured a NSCAA First Team All-American. His coaching experience also extends to the youth level, where he has been involved with the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association as the Head ODP Goalkeeper coach as well as being part of the goalkeeping staff for NJIT: Head Coach, 2011-12 the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Girls ODP Program. BENJI WALTON Assistant Coach 1ST YEAR AT INDIANA • 11 years as a college coach

Walton comes to the IU staff from Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) in Alabama, where he was the head coach for the last six seasons. During his tenure, he has led the program through the transi- tion from NCAA Division I to NCAA Division III. During his tenure, he has posted a record of 69-38-5, becoming the all-time leader in wins at BSC, and won at least 10 games in each season.

The 2012 season saw BSC capture the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCAC) regular sea- son co-championship.

He has coached or recruited four NSCAA All-Region players and five NSCAA Scholar All-Region play- ers, including two that went on to be named NSCAA Scholar All-Americans.

Before his time at BSC, Walton was the head coach at Limestone College for four seasons where he turned the program around at the Division II level. After posting a total of 11 wins his first two seasons, he went 17-16-5 over his last two years and had a pair of fifth place finishes in the Carolinas- Virginia Athletic Conference.

A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Walton also a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Georgia for three seasons (2002-03) while earning a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on Sports Administration.

morgan betscher VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH 1ST YEAR AT INDIANA

Morgan Betscher is in her first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Hoosiers. A native of Decatur, Ill., played four seasons at West Virginia University (2008-11) and helped the Mountaineers to back-to-back BIG EAST Championships and four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament during her career. Over her four-year career, she helped WVU amass a record of 52-19-13. She received BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors each of her four seasons in Morgantown in addition to being named to the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and the Dean’s List.

During the past two summers, Betscher has helped coach and evaluate players at the Region II ODP Camp and also worked WVU summer camp each year she was enrolled.

While she attended MacArthur High School, she was a three-year team captain of the soccer team and earned all-state ac- colades from 2005-07. She played club soccer for St. Louis Soccer Club, winning the 2005 national championship, and was a member of the ODP regional teams for three seasons.

She graduated from WVU in 2011 with a B.S. in Physical Education/Health Education.

KELLY NOONAN Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services / SPORT ADMINISTRATOR 8THYEAR AT INDIANA

Kelly Noonan is in her eighth season in the Indiana Department of Athletics and her second as the associate athletic director for academic services. She spent the previous three as the assistant athletic director for academic services. She oversees academic programming and support services for all student-athletes.

She joined Indiana in the summer of 2006 and has served as an academic advisor for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, softball, women’s basketball, volleyball, water polo, field hockey and men’s and women’s swimming.

Some of her other responsibilities have included oversight of the tutorial, supervised study, awards programs and the manage- ment of the part-time and student work force.

While completing her master’s degree in student affairs administration at the in 2006, she also worked with the women’s soccer team and the Total Person Program.

Prior to Missouri, Noonan worked at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) from 2001-2004, serving as the sport administrator for the cross country and swimming and diving championships. She assisted with the men’s basket- ball and outdoor track and field championships and also worked with the Champions of Character program, which promoted character in sport.

Noonan graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in business and sport administration. The St. Louis native was a two-year captain for Tulsa’s women’s soccer team. Her brother, Pat, was a three-time soccer All-American at IU (1999-2002).

WENDY POPPY (MS, PT, LAT, ATC) Assistant Athletic Trainer 26TH YEAR AT INDIANA

Wendy Poppy, in her 28th year at Indiana, is a native of Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with B.S. degree in Physical Therapy in 1973, and received her M.S. degree in Physical Therapy and Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina in 1985. During her tenure at Indiana University, she has provided athletic training coverage for men’s and women’s track and field, women’s volleyball, women’s basketball and cheerleading. She is currently the athletic trainer for Women’s Soccer and Men’s and Women’s Tennis. She has served on both the IATA and GLATA Gender and Diversity Commit- tees, and has been a FASE mentor at IU.

Poppy was named the Office of Women’s Affairs award winner for the Excellence in Supporting Women’s Athletics for 2011- 2012 and served as a co-author for The National Athletic Trainers’ Association Position Statement: Conservative Management and Prevention of Ankle Sprains in Athletes published in the Journal of Athletic Training July/August 2013.

In addition to her sports coverage, she serves as an instructor for “Therapeutic Modalities and Methods” in the graduate athletic training curriculum, as well as a guest lecturer within the graduate and undergraduate athletic training education programs.

ELAINE DEPPE Strength & Conditioning Coach Six years as a collegiate strength coach

Elaine Deppe started working as a strength and conditioning coach at IU in the 2008-09 season. Among the sports that she works with are women’s soccer, women’s swimming, field hockey, novice rowing, varsity rowing.

She came to Indiana after spending one year as a graduate assistant at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Penn. At LaSalle, she directly oversaw the men’s and women’s rowing, women’s lacrosse, women’s swimming, volleyball, softball and diving teams. Deppe also assisted with the field hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and track and field teams. Prior to LaSalle, Deppe completed an internship with IU’s Varsity Strength and Conditioning department in the summer of 2007.

Deppe graduated with a fitness specialist degree with a coaching minor from Indiana University in 2007. She started working on a Masters in Education while at LaSalle and finished her Master’s work in 2011 at Indiana in the field of Applied Sport Sci- ence. She has the USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Certification in addition to NSCA CSCS certifications.

Deppe was a member of the rowing team for four years while at Indiana. She received the “Most Dedicated Athlete Award” and the “Team Leadership Award” in 2006. She was named team captain for the 2006-2007 season and received Alpha Beta distinction all four years for her achievements in the classroom.

EILEEN O’ROURKE ACADEMIC ADVISOR 2ND YEAR AT INDIANA

Eileen O’Rourke is in her second year at Indiana University and serves as the academic advisor for diving, field hockey, rowing and women’s soccer.

Prior to joining the Hoosier staff, O’Rourke completed a yearlong internship at the University of Memphis. While at Mem- phis, O’Rourke served as the academic advisor for men’s soccer and assisted with NCAA initial and continuing eligibility. O’Rourke is also a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).

O’Rourke earned a bachelor degree in history (2008) and a master’s degree in sports administration (2010) from Eastern Illinois University. The Chicago native was a three year captain for the varsity women’s rugby team.
