MAYORAL MINUTE - INAUGURAL CUMBERLAND CITY COUNCIL AND COUNCIL CRICKET MATCH Author: Mayor Steve Christou File Number: SC486

SUMMARY

On Saturday, 5 December 2020, teams from Cumberland City Council and City of Parramatta Council’s faced off in the inaugural Mayoral Challenge Cricket Match between the two amalgamated Councils.

Held at George Parry Oval, Mona Park Auburn, our team of Councillors and staff faced off in a thrilling 20/20 match against the City of Parramatta team, led by team captain Deputy Lord Mayor Michelle Garrard.

It was a close game and enjoyed by all who played and attended. The final scores were Cumberland City Council, 9 wickets for 117 runs, with City of Parramatta on 6 wickets for 115 runs.

I am very pleased to advise that we won this years match in the final over, and we achieved first bragging rights over our neighbours. I would like to thank and congratulate all of our team members and supporters. The team really showed how much pride they have in representing Cumberland City Council.

On behalf of Cumberland City Council, I would also like to sincerely thank City of Parramatta Council Lord Mayor, Bob Dwyer, Team Captain Deputy Lord Mayor, Michelle Garrard, and their entire team for their great efforts and showing of sportsmanship.

Previously held between Holroyd City Council and Parramatta City Council, the annual cricket match developed a long-standing but very friendly rivalry between the two Council’s, that City of Parramatta and Cumberland City Council look forward to continuing this important tradition in future.

Finally, given the event was organised at short notice due to Covid-19 considerations, a nominated charity was not chosen in advance of the match, which will be the standard practice moving forward. I would like to thank Lord Mayor, Bob Dwyer and City of Parramatta Council, for passing a Mayoral minute to match a $2,000 donation to a charity that this Council nominates.

I would like the donation to be made in support of our Australian heroes, our veterans. Therefore, I am nominating SoldierOn as the charity for the donation.

Soldier On is a leader in supporting those who have served and continue to serve in the Australian Defence Force. With an exemplary track record of providing practical

Page 5 Extraordinary Council Meeting 9 December 2020 and emotional assistance critical to building successful post-service lives, Soldier On is recognised as an essential first port of call for veterans and their families as they transition from the Defence Force to civilian life. The Charity assists with veterans dealing with significant challenges including loss of identity, purpose and belonging for veterans and their families, and social isolation as there is a higher risk of veterans developing anxiety disorders or Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.

They do some great work and that is why I have nominated this as a worthy cause for donation.

Therefore Councillors, tonight I am recommending the following:

RECOMMENDATION

That Council: 1. Thank Lord Mayor Bob Dwyer, Deputy Lord Mayor Michelle Garrard and the team at City of Parramatta Council for their participation in the 2020 Mayoral Challenge Cricket Match; 2. Congratulate the Cumberland City Council team on winning the challenge; 3. Thank the family, friends and community members who attended the match to support both teams; and 4. Make a donation of $2,000 to the SoliderOn charity, in support of Veterans, noting that this donation will be matched by City of Parramatta Council.

MAYORAL MINUTE - COMMUNITY CONSULTATION ON 1 THE CRESCENT HOLROYD PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT Author: Mayor Steve Christou File Number: SC486

SUMMARY

Tonight, there is a report in the agenda regarding a further update on the large proposed development at 1 The Crescent, Holroyd.

Following consideration of the proposal at the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 16 September 2020, a submission was provided to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, which outlined Council’s significant concerns on the proposal. The submission also clearly outlined the outcomes of the community survey undertaken in August and September 2020, which noted significant community opposition to the proposal.

I have repeatedly said in this Chamber that this Council is all about going back to basics, and part of that back to basics approach includes fighting for our community’s best interests, and ensuring that regular and appropriate consultation with our community is undertaken when something significant will potentially impact them.

Our community have largely told us that they do not want this proposal to proceed. Therefore, it is in our community’s interest that this Council hold the relevant parties accountable to undertake a proper and thorough consultation process on this proposal, which includes the holding of a public meeting, and a detailed briefing being held for this Council.

Therefore Councillors, tonight I am recommending the following:

RECOMMENDATION

That Council write to the Chairperson of the Central Sydney Planning Panel, requesting that a briefing and public meeting be held for the community with respect to the 1 The Crescent, Holroyd Development proposal.
