More perfectly bound to the Church as a true witness to Christ

BoB reddy of the Florida Catholic staff

ARCADIA | Through the Sacrament of Confirmation the Christian initiation is completed, as the recipients become more perfectly bound to the Church as a true witness to Christ, Pope Francis explained during a catechesis on the Sacrament at a General Audience at the Vatican. Confirmation is a Sacrament which must be understood as a continuation of the faith journey, beginning with Baptism, along with the Eucharist, to constitute a single saving event — Christian initiation — “in which we are brought into Christ who died and rose again, and become new creatures and members of the Church,” the Holy Father said. Throughout much of history, these three Sacraments were cel- ebrated together, at the end of the catechumenal path, normally on Holy Saturday, Pope Francis continued. “This concluded the pro- Pope Francis and Rabbi of Western Wall cess of formation and gradual insertion into the Christian com- shmuel Rabinovitch walk towards the munity that could even take several years. Two years ago, the Florida Catholic embarked on a journey to preserve the decades of news and events covered since Dec. 1, 1939, the first published edition of the paper. Throughout our 75th year we will publish a “look back” page where we delve into our archives and check out how a topic, event or decade was covered. While portions of newspaper articles will be reprinted on these pages, pages about these topics will be available online at www.thefloridacatholic.org.
