Swaziland king Mswati III renames country ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’:

Swaziland’s King Mswati III has changed the name of the country to the ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’. The monarch made the announcement at the dual celebration to mark his 50th birthday and the African nation’s 50 years of independence. The Kingdom of eSwatini, which was a British protectorate for more than 60 years, is Africa’s last absolute monarchy.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: NATIONAL Parcel Directorate inaugurated by Shri Manoj Sinha:

Minister of State for Communications (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha has inaugurated the newly created Parcel Directorate in the Department of Posts. The global decline in letter mail, and being no exception to this trend has been offset by an increase in packets and parcels. This is primarily on account of the e-commerce boom in India, with e-tailers requiring integrated collection, aggregation, sorting, transmission and delivery systems.

Chhattisgarh to Distribute Free Smartphones to Over 50 Lakh People Under Sanchar Kranti Yojana:

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister on Monday announced that his government would distribute over 30 lakh smartphones to college students, farmers, workers in tendu leaf plantations and labourers in the State over the next five months under Sanchar Kranti Yojana. The Chief Minister’s announcement is being viewed as an attempt by the government to appease certain sections of the State’s population ahead of Assembly polls. The ruling -led State government will be battling anti-incumbency after a 15- year-long rule.

UP govt orders govt hospitals and orphanages to establish SHISHU SWAGAT KENDRA- PALNA:

In Uttar Pradesh, Government has ordered all government hospitals and orphanages to establish SHISHU SWAGAT KENDRA- PALNA and put up cradles in front of their buildings so that parents can give up unwanted babies safely. Yesterday an order was issued to all district magistrates and other higher officials of the state to ensure the setup of PALNA centres. This will help in tackling the problem of abandoning the infant at the roadside.

Kochi to host India Skills Kerala 2018:

Kerala will host the India Skills Kerala 2018 – in Kochi from April 28 to 30, as part of the World Skills India 2018. The event is aimed at identifying and training talents to get medals at the World Skills Competition Kazan 2019. Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), the State Skill Development Mission (SSDM) and Industrial Training Department under the Department of Labour and Skills are spearheading the activities for the event. The proposed India Skills Kerala 2018 is an avenue provided to the youngsters in the State to showcase their vocational skills. It also aims at generating interest and creating awareness among the general public.

IIIDEM organizes 2-Day Consultative Workshop for the Delegation from the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan: The India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) organized a 2-day Consultative Workshop for the Delegation from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kazakhstan from April 16-17, 2018 at Nirvachan Sadan, Election Commission of India, New Delhi. The six-member delegation comprised of the Vice-Chairman of CEC, Kazakhstan and other Senior Officials. The workshop aimed to hold interactive discussions on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) & Role of IT and Conduct of Training Programme.

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London:

Prime Minister has underlined the importance of looking at the concerns of the small and island states in the crucial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM, during its first day which is underway in London. India announced a number of initiatives in the direction through doubling of contribution for Common Fund for Sustainable Development Goals, taking up small projects in the small and island countries, capacity building and training programmes in areas including trade, cricket and skill development.

First Ever International SME Convention-2018 in New Delhi:

One hundred and fifty participants from 31 countries and 400 entrepreneurs from India will participate in the four day International SME convention being held in New Delhi from 22ndto 24th April. The Ministry of MSME has engaged with over 35 International Trade Development organisations to attract and invite able and willing entrepreneurs. The convention has specific focus on inclusion of MSMEs in the Make in India program & empowering women entrepreneurs.

Standard Chartered ties up with Zoho:

Standard Chartered Bank has announced an alliance with Zoho, a software products company, to offer solutions to enhance corporate banking experience. The bank’s business account holders can now pay their suppliers and automate reconciliation right from Zoho Books, Zoho’s cloud accounting software.

Karan Johar Is First Bollywood Filmmaker To Get Wax Statue At Madame Tussauds:

Filmmaker Karan Johar will get a wax statue at Madame Tussauds London. He will be Bollywood’s first filmmaker to get a wax figure at the museum. “Karan Johar’s talent and career goes well beyond just filmmaking which makes him an exciting and entertaining personality for them to add to the many other iconic International wax figures. Additionally, his wax figure will not just be launched in one city but will simultaneously head out on tour across Asia to give his many fans across the world a chance to experience him being waxed,” read a statement. The wax statue will be launched later this year.

Madhya Pradesh conferred Most Film Friendly Award:

The Most Film Friendly State Award was announced by the Chairman of the Jury, Shri Ramesh Sippy. State of Madhya Pradesh was conferred the award for the Most Film Friendly State for its efforts towards easing filming in the State by creating a well-structured web site, film friendly infrastructure, offering incentives, maintaining databases, undertaking marketing and promotional initiatives, unanimously by the Jury from among the 16 States that participated.

Rakesh Roshan to get lifetime achievement honour:

Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan will be felicitated with a Lifetime Achievement honour at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Awards for his contribution as a producer, director, screenwriter, editor and actor in Hindi films. The awards ceremony will take place on April 29 at Chitrakoot Ground. Rakesh Roshan has produced and directed movies like Kaho Na Pyar hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Krish and Kaabil.
