1 April has kept most of us on lockdown, but this does not mean we have been inactive. Working from our own homes, we have done plenty of planning, coordination and evaluation. Important decisions have been made in the last few days regarding future events: new dates for the Pan American and Parapan American Championships, allocation of the 2022 Pan American Championships, and more slots for the compound bow with teams in Santiago 2023. We have held important on-line meetings with the organizing committees of the 2023 Pan American Games, the 2021 Pan American Junior Games, and the 2022 South American Games to ensure that the archery competition at these events is held in compliance with the best international standards. World Archery Americas is regarded as a serious, organized and respectable continental organization. Based on this recognition, our request to increase the number of compound archers and to include the compound men and compound women team events in Santiago 2023 has been considered and approved by Pan Am Sports. We know the numbers can still be further increased, but this is a long process we will continue to work on for 2027. We are pleased to hear that our archers along the continent keep themselves active with adjusted training routines to continue their preparation for future events. We know that this is the result of the athletes’ rigorous discipline but also the outcome of their national federations’ planning and control. Congratulations to all archers, coaches, judges and national federation officials who have not been stopped by the unfavorable international situation. The World Archery Executive Board, in consultation with World Archery Americas and the Mexican Federation, have decided to move the dates of the Pan American and Parapan American Championships and Tokyo Continental qualifiers to the end of March 2021. This decision has been based on the present international situation and the conditions under which our athletes have been and will be training in the last and next few months. Monterrey, Mexico, will remain as the host city. The WAA Council has decided to allocate the 2022 Pan American Championships to Santiago de Chile. The Chilean Federation submitted their bid for the approval of the General Assembly originally planned to be held in Monterrey in March 2020. 3 Campo de Tiro – Evento Ranking Mundial, Santiago de Chile 2019 Pan Am Sports has requested the definition of the dates and venue of the first qualifier for the 2023 Pan Am Games. It was therefore necessary to make a decision before the Assembly can be finally held later this year. The Pan American Championships will be held in October 2022, twelve months prior to the Pan Am Games, and will be the first qualifier for the Games. In response to a request made by World Archery Americas to raise the number of compound archers in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Pan Am Sports has accepted to increase the rosters to 16 men and 16 women. In Lima 2019 there were 10 archers in each gender. The additional six archers will include the gold medal winner in each gender in the Cali 2021 Pan American Junior Games. The new figures will allow team competition in both genders, but the compound teams will be formed by two archers. More information on the qualification system and the events to be contested in Santiago 2023 will be released shortly. Barebow archers at an indoor event Due to the current international health situation, World Archery Americas has extended its 2020 Multi-Sites Indoor Championships (MICA) until the end of the year. Results from events that took place before March 15 and those held after July 1, according to World Archery’s current hiatus, until December 31 will be considered. If for any reason World Archery decides to further delay the reinstatement of the competition calendar, the MICA dates will adjust accordingly. The 60-arrow 18-metre indoor competition usually runs from January 1 to June 30. Archers shoot the round at registered indoor tournaments held in any of the 33 World Archery Americas Member Associations. The 2020 edition is the first to include barebow competitions since World Archery approved the inclusion of this type of bow in target competitions in 2019. 6 Para leer mientras nos cuidamos en casa / Something to read while we stay safe at home Finales de la Copa Mundial Hyundai / The Hyundai World Cup Finals Como se prometió en el boletín de marzo, incluimos en abril un resumen de las finales de las Copas Mundiales.
