Saint Xavier High School Saturday, February 22, 2014 The St. Francis Xavier Society enrolls committed individuals who, in the spirit of St. Francis Xavier, dedicate themselves to the betterment of life by endorsing an educational process that integrates the rigors of academic excellence with the light and guidance of Divine faith. As a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School, we realize that today’s young people are precious sources of goodness and that Society members support the philosophy, values and experiences that a Catholic education at Saint Xavier provides. The Society has been established as an organization that requires an annual gift of one thousand dollars or more. Since being founded in 1986, gifts from Society members have been used to fund Saint Xavier’s need-based tuition assistance program along with many other school enhancements. 2014 Legacy... Auction Boards Re-Open 200 Board Closes at 9:15 pm Super Board Closes at 9:35pm On behalf of the students and families who benefit from the Annual Fund, we would like to extend a special thank you to all of our donors who contributed items for the auction wall.

Fund-A-Need

Since our beginning 150 years ago, St. X has continued to live by one of the Xaverian Brothers founding principles: to make a Saint Xavier education affordable to the young men of our community. Throughout much of our history, this was provided by the grace of the Brothers religious mission. Today, however, we must provide real dollars as assistance to families who may not be able to afford the full cost of tuition. One in every four St. X students receives need-based tuition assistance. We encourage you to fulfill this Xaverian legacy and assist young men who desire a Saint Xavier education by making a gift to Fund-A-Need. The Fund-A-Need Board is located on the Auction Wall.

John Spears is the “voice of St. X sports.” A member of the Class of 1981, he began as the public address announcer for basketball games in 1980. He continued in that role until 1997 when he took over as the field reporter for football games and as the analyst for basketball and baseball con- tests. In 2004, John assumed the duties as play-by-play an- nouncer for all St. X football, basketball and baseball broad- casts. Working alongside various associates, John’s voice can be heard on radio and internet broadcasts of regular season and playoff action for all Saint Xavier athletic contests. As part of the Bisig Impact Group sports broadcasting team, John has distinguished himself as an accomplished professional, not only among the St. X faithful, but also in the Lou- isville community.

John also works as a public address announcer and broadcaster for various Louisville Catholic School Athletic Association contests and tournaments, a role he has held since 1981. He has been active as a volunteer with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, raising funds for children’s cancer research in memory of Mitchell Klausing, an honorary member of the Class of 2007. He has also participated with his Tiger classmates as an alumni pho- nathon caller.

John has worked as a clerk for the Postal Service since 1985. He is married to Jami Jarboe Spears and they have two daughters, Sydney Beth and Macy Jo.
