GgLP_TL_C 14 and 15 October North West A STITCH IN TIME 2017 CONSERVE, CURATE, CREATE Visit the North West’s own Downton Abbey, , and discover new skills to inspire you and your unit! This unique day is all about giving you, our volunteers an insight into different ways to create with the girls in your unit. In addition to the rare opportunity to take part in workshops in forest skills and curation, you will have the opportunity to ‘meet’ the famous Miss Rachel Shuttleworth who lived at Gawthorpe Hall. Miss Shuttleworth was one of the founder members of Girlguiding and is renowned for designing the National Standard. She inspired many girls and their Leaders and this day will hopefully give you lots of new ideas and will inspire you to work on new projects like Arts Award, or other areas of the programme. TIMETABLING WORKSHOPS The timetable will be the same on both All Participants will have the opportunity to take part in all four workshops through out the day: days. 1. Join artist Serena Partridge to explore her commission celebrating the life of Rachel Kay- 10am Arrive and Welcome Shuttleworth and be inspired to create your own miniature pieces in this interactive workshop.

10.30am – 11.35am Session One 2.Learn about the conservation and care of historic collections. With a trained Conservator, learn 11.35am - 12.40am Session Two how museum objects are cleaned and cared for using a range of specialist cleaning materials. You will even have the opportunity to try your hand at cleaning some specially chosen items from the Hall’s 12.40pm - 1.40pm Lunch collection. 1.40pm - 2.45pm Session Three 3.Take a look around the Hall, see the exhibition about Miss Rachel’s life and meet ‘Miss Rachel’, who 2.45pm - 3.50pm Session Four will talk about life growing up at Gawthorpe Hall and her work with Girlguiding. 3.50pm Final Gathering and Farewell 4. Take part in a Forest School activity led by a National Trust Ranger. Construct a shelter, prepare a fire site, collect wood, prepare and eat popcorn. Instruction and discussion on running your own forest 4.30pm Close school will be held throughout the session.

Participants will be encouraged to take photographs of their day and then curate their own exhibition online as part of the event – full details will be provided soon!
