PTFA News – 9th October 2020

It was great to see all those who jumped on to the PTFA Zoom meeting on Wednesday! A huge thank you to everyone for all your input and ideas. We’ll host another one soon, so whether you have an idea that could raise funds for the school, you’d like to get more involved by taking on a role such as Treasurer, or would just like to meet some new people and see what it’s all about, everyone is welcome.

One thing that came up is that not everyone is sure exactly what the PTFA is, does, or who it’s for, so we’re taking that on board and will be putting a lot more work in to get the message out that:

 We’re parents and carers, like you  We organise events to raise money for school  We look for ways to make our school community stronger  We’re a registered charity  It’s a great way to meet people and make new friends  You can put in as much or as little time as you want  You are never ‘just a random parent’. Anyone can get involved!

Facebook You’re invited to join us on the Compass Point School PTFA Facebook page and group. We’re planning to be much more active, and will be there to answer questions, talk about your ideas – and hopefully give you a taste of what it’s all about.

Event – Zoom coffee morning for Reception parents We’re hosting a coffee morning for all the parents and carers of children in Reception Class! In times when having a chat at the school gates is harder than ever, this is a great chance for you to get to know each other and make new friends – and the bonus is you can do it from the comfort of your own home. Plus, everyone who comes along will be entered into a raffle to win either a free bottle of wine or a box of chocolates – the choice is yours. So get the kettle on, settle down on the sofa, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Date: Thursday 15th October at 10am. Details of the Zoom link to follow very soon.

Read of the Week by Mrs Skuce— The Danger Gang by Tom Fletcher. This author is a firm favourite with readers across the school due to books such as The Christmasaurus, and The Creakers, and it is so exciting that he has released another book. can't wait to move to his new town - although he wishes he didn't have to leave his best friend Dani behind. But everything changes after the storm, when strange green lightning and powerful thunder crash down on the town. From that night on, the kids who live on Franky's street start to change. One by one, they become a little odd. A little unusual. A little... magical. Franky's always wanted to be part of an amazing gang - just like his hero, super-spy Zack Danger! And soon, he realises that there's real danger in store for himself and his new friends. And so the Danger Gang is born...

Allergens and Special Diets

Please remember that it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school if your child has a medical dietary requirement (such as an allergy). If you have not already done so, please let the school office know immediately and we will arrange for forms to be sent to you, so that a special diet can be created for your child. For more information on the special diet policy please visit our website www.compasspoint.bristol.sch.uk/key-information/school-dinners/

Compass Point Gallery As part of the return to the school curriculum, all the children have been exploring artists and artwork around the theme of emotions. We have been very impressed by the unique ways in which the children have used and adapted the artwork and techniques to convey themselves and their emotions. We hope to continue seeing the children using art as a way to express themselves!
