Senator Clinton also chairs the Senate Democratic Steering and Hillary Rodham Outreach Committee, responsible for communicating with the public about key Clinton issues before Congress. New York State Senator After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Senator Clinton worked with her colleagues to secure the funds New York needed to rebuild. She fought to provide compensation to the families of the victims, grants for hard-hit business- es, and health care for front line workers at Ground Zero. She continues to work for resources that enable New York to grow, to improve homeland security for New York and other communities, and to protect all Americans from future attacks. Betty Park opened her first restaurant in Harlem in 1983. Coming from Korea she had heard that Harlem was a good place to start a business, but that it would be challenging. The Harlem community was not initially welcoming of the Korean influx and the Korean business people were almost totally uninvolved with the community. She made a decision to become involved with the community by hiring people who lived there, to work in the restaurant. She also participated in various neighborhood pro- grams, like sponsoring a couple of children in a YMCA after-school pro- gram, providing college scholarship assistance to two girls and supporting Police Athletic League programs. She also supports the activities of various churches. This involvement has not only led to a better relationship with the community and helped her business to grow, but it has also changed Betty Park the perception of Harlem by many of her Korean friends. Recently, Ms. President Park received an Achievement Award from the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce. Pier2110-2118 Restaurant
