GENE SILENCING BY DOUBLE STRANDED RNA Nobel Lecture, December 8, 2006 by Andrew Z. Fire Departments of Pathology and Genetics, Stanford University School of Medicine, 300 Pasteur Drive, Room L235, Stanford, CA 94305-5324, USA. I would like to thank the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institutet for the opportunity to describe some recent work on RNA-triggered gene silencing. First a few disclaimers, however. Telling the full story of gene silencing would be a mammoth enterprise that would take me many years to write and would take you well into the night to read. So we’ll need to abbreviate the story more than a little. Second (and as you will see) we are only in the dawn of our knowledge; so consider the following to be primer... the best we could do as of December 8th, 2006. And third, please understand that the story that I am telling represents the work of several generations of biologists, chemists, and many shades in between. I’m pleased and proud that work from my labo- ratory has contributed to the field, and that this has led to my being chosen as one of the messengers to relay the story in this forum. At the same time, I hope that there will be no confusion of equating our modest contributions with those of the much grander RNAi enterprise. DOUBLE STRANDED RNA AS A BIOLOGICAL ALARM SIGNAL These disclaimers in hand, the story can now start with a biography of the first main character. Double stranded RNA is probably as old (or almost as old) as life on earth.

Very few DJs can jump from club sets to high-profile festival performances, to Kanye West’s larger- than-life stadium shows with ease. In today’s DJ culture, A-Trak holds a truly unique place. He and partner Nick Catchdubs founded America’s most trendsetting new label, Fool’s Gold, launching the careers of artists such as Kid Sister and Kid Cudi. Fool’s Gold’s mission to merge all aspects of club music was already outlined in Trizzy’s original mixtape manifesto, Dirty South Dance, which set the tone for his own production. He is now one of the most sought-after remixers in electronic music, and his remixes for the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Boys Noize have become undeniable mainstays in DJ sets the world over. 2009 saw the release of two critically acclaimed DJ mixes, Infinity +1 and Fabriclive 45, as well as the birth of Duck Sauce, his collaboration with Armand Van Helden. The duo’s radio smash “aNYway” cemented itself as the dance anthem of the year, A-Trak’s first true chart- topper with two videos in international rotation and across-the-board support from Pete Tong to Busy P, David Guetta to 2manydjs. Duck Sauce’s 2010 follow up “Barbra Streisand” was even bigger, a whistling pop sensation that accumulated over 60 million YouTube views of its star-studded video while hitting platinum heights around the globe. They even covered it on X-Factor and Glee! Not bad for a kid whom many viewed as a 90’s turntablism prodigy.

  • Debut Ep 95 out Today Executive Produced By
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 18, 2019 INTRODUCING… GRAMMY AWARD®-WINNING ARTIST AND PRODUCER DEBUT EP 95 OUT TODAY EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY CARDO AND BEAM, NCLUDES FEATURES BY CHILDISH MAJOR AND MORGAN SAINT (October 18, 2019 – New York, NY) – Today, GRAMMY Award®-winning producer, songwriter, and artist, BEAM, steps into his own with the release of his debut EP, 95. Get 95 HERE via Epic Records. BEAM executive produced the ten track body of work alongside Cardo—known for producing songs like Drake’s “God’s Plan” and Travis Scott’s “Goosebumps” [feat. Kendrick Lamar]. Detonating and rebuilding the idea of genre, the Kingston, Jamaica-born and Miami-raised maverick distills razor sharp raps, reggae rhythms, and otherworldly experimentation into an arresting global hybrid, steeped in the island spirit and uplifted by daring ambition into a unique sound all his own. Mixing Dancehall with Hip-Hop, Trap and Pop, he effortlessly switches between Jamaican Patois and English, and rapping and singing, with his intoxicatingly robust and adaptable voice. The result is jarring-yet-melodic, a direct-yet-diverse cohesion of colors and textures. BEAM pairs this singular style with a nineties-inspired aesthetic, the decade in which he was born, which can be found in everything from the project’s visuals to teasers that have slowly been revealed on social media. Taking 90’s iconography and warping it into something new, references include everything from Windows 95 and the internet at its most nascent phase to VHS tapes and TV commercials. Check out the haunting visual for track “Lost” HERE. Cavernous synths echo alongside his airy delivery on the opener “Drop The Roof, which kicks down the door into his world.
