Summary of issues discussed: The main business of the meeting was a discussion on the importance of active travel to the post lockdown transport system in Wales with Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport. The meeting agreed to draft a letter to the First Minister setting out the key requirements for a sustainable transport system during and after the lockdown, the letter to be signed by a wide range of member and supporting organisations. It was also agreed to develop a shared active travel programme amongst the Group’s members and supporters with a view to having it included in party manifestos for the 2021 Senedd elections. Participants were urged to take part in the consultation on the recent review of the Active Travel Act Guidance Review Guidance.

Summary of issues discussed: The meeting received a presentation on "Placemaking and Active Travel" from the Minister responsible for the planning system in Wales: Julie James MS, Minister for Housing and Local Government. The Minister outlined how she is promoting active travel as an integral part of placemaking within planning policy. She had just issued the Placemaking Charter reminding local authorities of the importance of the place making approach to dealing with Covid. The Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport updated the meeting on the work of the 20mph task group. He was delighted that there was now a cross party consensus around the need for a default 20mph limit. The meeting also received updates on the ongoing process of drawing up an active travel process and on the implementation of the Active Travel Act's provisions on street works and new highways.

Summary of issues discussed:

The meeting discussed the Group’s draft list of key policy asks for inclusion in the parties’ 2021 manifestos. Presentations were made by representatives of four political parties: Luke Fletcher for Plaid Cymru, Cllr Mia Rees for the Welsh Conservatives, Jenny Rathbone MS for Welsh Labour and Cllr Emma Sandrey for the Welsh Liberal Democrats (Lib Dem Spokesperson on Transport on Cardiff Council). The meeting adopted the draft document subject to some detailed changes raised at the meeting. The Chair reported on a successful intervention to have cycle parking included as a requirement in Welsh Government’s social housing design standards.

Annual Meeting: the meeting re-elected Huw Irranca-Davies AM as Chair and Chris Roberts as Secretary. Ordinary Meeting: the meeting received presentations from Nick Guy of Wheelrights and Rhiannon Hardiman of Living Streets on the effective promotion of active travel. There was also a discussion on Welsh Governments consultation on its new transport strategy. It was agreed that a working group would be formed to prepare a response on behalf of the Group.
